So since the beginning of the season we've now lost (without replacement):

Gelling
FPN
Joel

Surely there's spare cash in the pot to recruit in for the rest of this season (even if on loan)? Or will the club just ride it out with the squad we have left?

Was Sarge the replacement for Gels? I could be wrong.

You’d have to think there’s room. I think Sarginson was signed knowing Gelling was going but there doesn’t look to have been replacements for McIlorum or Nuuausala and now a reporter high earner like Joel Tomkins is off the books.

In the short term I’m expecting we’ll move for Greenwood and that will be a boost. In the longer term the club has zero excuses for not being able to strengthen across the board. I’d imagine Hardaker and Greenwood will be on well less then the Tomkins brothers so that spare cash along with the salaries of McIlorum, Nuuausala, Sutton, Bateman and whoever else leaves (fringe players such as Higginson and Bretherton have reportedly already been told they’re being released) should be available. Yes a couple of lads will have had increases but the club simply must be aiming to get in another prop (or two), a centre and a scrum half.

I've got this horrible feeling Wigan are simply running out of cash, in years gone by we got good deals for each of the Tomkins which filled the reserves of cash and we haven't had those inflows of late, just people going - i.e headcount reductions. The attendances & sponsorships aren't making up for it. Sorry for the pessimism but it's something I've seen many times before in my line of work.

Let’s not forget that although Sam was on big money, only £75K counted towards salary cap. Like others have said, there must be plenty room on the cap to bring somebody in straight away.
