Rugby League Live is spoiled by some amazingly obvious errors. For example, Super League players can't physically kick the ball far enough to either go into touch from the kick off or through the posts from a touchline conversion, wind assisted or not. 40-20s are ALMOST impossible for Super League players.
The online is ok if you're not playing against someone in Oz. The lag makes the game almost unplayable.
That said, the actual playmaking CAN be quite good. Against evenly matched teams, it can provide a real challenge requiring sensible tactics and passing to make progress. Defence is also good and well executed. The kicking interface is the best it's been in RL games so far, but still not up to the level of, say, EA's Rugby 2001.
Turn your "Controller Auto Off" OFF though... if you do leave the console for too long (say to make a brew or something), when you turn your controller back on you will no longer be able to sprint for the duration of the current match.
Whilst it's not really awful bad, it certainly belongs in the "Could be MUCH better" pool.
I'm keeping it to play online and earn the Platinum trophy, then I may trade it in in a year's time.
Anybody want a match?'"
The learning curve is shocking. On easy I beat teams about 70-0 but on medium I only score about a try per game and generally have to rely on drop goals if I want to win. The fact that all the opposition players become faster on medium is stupid too because it makes it impossible to score from more than 30 out.

The Wii one is far superior playability wise to Live but Live looks alot better.
Both are shocking in comparison to the realism of footy games etc but decent enough coz its all we have. RL3 is well worth £15 coz in that one you have the option to move players about to the right teams etc.
Just be warned the passing is a shocker at times and takes some real getting used to (thinks you wanna pass it the opposite way alot)

And the way that if a player picks up a dropped ball they just stand there and wont move until the camera has repositioned itself usually meaning an interception and full lengther is near impossible.
Is Pat REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEALY slow on everyones copy btw? I know its unlikely anyone elses will be different but on mine he seems to take forever to get to speed and then its not much speed that he gets to.

| My first impression of it was that it was crap, also too easy on easy setting but too hard on medium. But if you give it time and learn how to play it tactically it becomes a much easier/better game to play and i do enjoy playing it.
Off course i wont lie, there is a lot of room for improvement and it wasnt worth the £45 that i paid for it but its still good fun and not a bad game once you get used to it.
If you play with 2 evenly matched teams it can be a great contest and if you get your tactics and style of play correct you can win with decent margins.

Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.

| Not even going to bother buying it after RL2.
Do you still run into touch if you try and pick the ball up near to the touch line?
I much prefer any of the CODs online.

No, to be fair they got rid of the worst glitches which were this, not trying to put the ball down when a defender touches you over the line and not being able to jump.

| I like it, as been said it's a tough game, even on medium you feel you have to grind out wins and be tactical.
You've got to have the right kicker for 40/20's, I've managed a few with Deacon

| Bought it on release day and played quite a few games now.
Graphics arent too bad although player likeness is shocking for the UK players.
It's quite limited, once a season's over that's it you just have to start the game again. RL3 on the Wii had a wealth of modes and fairly in depth "master league" system with buying and selling players which would have improved this no end.
Difficulty wise its a sharp learning curve. Went straight for normal and started a season with Wigan, lost the first 14 games including a gut wrenching 48-0 to Saints. Second half of season I won more than I lost but only by a small margin. Now into my second season im undefeated after 9 games and am winning most games by a 20+ points margin so will be stepping up to hard mode soon. But thats what you want in a game, a challenge at first and with practise you improve and so increase the difficulty for a new challenge. If I won every game 50-0 from the first time I played it i'd be bored of it by now.
Played a few games against family online too and pleased there was no slowdown or glitches although did play someone in NZ and it was unplayable!
All in all its an ok game, the controls are ok and it is decent to play given time, its not worth £45 but it is a rugby game and hopefully the next installment will improve on it.

Yet STILL, there's no option for the loose forward to pick up from the scrum, and no "playbook" moves (activated from a tap or scrum), which I think would be good additions.

The gameplay is quite good on this, but I would only play it if you have gamecube controllers, because trying to play with the actual Wii controller is near impossible for passing. The graphics aren't as good, but for £30 less it's worth it...

For reference, Wigan is like the Roman Empire. Warrington is like the pillow fort I built in my bedroom when I was 9. Ok, 26...

| I use an website called Find Games.co.uk there is also an iPhone app for the site, put in the game you are looking for and which console and it checks most of the game sellers in the UK for the best price.
Worth a look.
Currently Rugby League Live on PS3 is cheapest at shopto and its £42.85 Inc postage.
Still an awful game though!!
