Any times I have met him I have I found him to be very polite and certainly not the great "I am."'"
Not at all, there's a long list of coaches in the NRL I'd have before an inexperienced ex player just because "he's a Wiganer" and "he loves the club" because let's be honest, at the moment they are the only 2 arguements in his favour. He'd have to prove himself coaching the younger ages first, then be an assistant for 2/3 years before he was even considered IMO, same as wane had to do.

Saw Edwards on "time of our lives" and he came across to me as an arrogant, self ed horrible little creature. He's a Wigan great, of course he is, but a Wigan coach.....no thanks.'"
You definitely don't know Shaun. Grew up with him, he's as down to earth as you can get.

In an age of people walking out mid-contract - primarily top Aussies from the NRL - I'd have thought that 'loving the club' would be worth a bit more to us than it used to be.

Thats interesting, How did you get that from the interview? I remember him talking about how proud he was to bring the trophy home for the fans. He came across really down to earth on that interview, as he usually does.
If your interested there is a really good interview with him here

Did you watch the Superleague Supermen when Edwards was the subject?
How did you think he came across then?
Were you one of the DALGLISH chanters at Liverpool?
Shaun Edwards has forgot more about rugby than Dalglish will ever know about football (and I think Dalglish was the most astute signing Liverpool ever made)
btw great result today.

| I'm sure kenny won the premiership with Blackburn, the double with liverpool in his first year, and a league cup in 2011??
Dalglish - worldwide footballing legend and idol
Edwards - legend in the small town of Wigan, otherwise, half the country have never heard of him.

Whilst I agree Dalglish is more well known your comments about Edwards shows the typical head in the sand arrogance/ignorance for RU that 90% of RL fans possess.
Edwards is known up and down the country. He's internationally respected in all rugby playing nations not because of his Wigan days but because of his RU coaching profile.
It's laughable that you pass off over a decades worth of TOP LEVEL coaching experience! Different sport but being able to motivate, improve your players, manage egos etc all easily transfer! The game of RL hasn't DRAMATICALLY changed tactics wise since he played. Its improved through new ways to train, sport science, fitter athletes and better recovery options. Edwards has been an international coach in RU and will be fully up to date with all these progressions and in some instances he'll have seen more than guys like Wane.
Don't try and say he's out of touch when he's anything but.
How long do you think it will take him to get his head around a Tomkins wrap around which is Wigans only attacking move really.

| There is a massive difference between being inexperienced and being out of touch.
Cast your mind back. Hanleys first job as coach was in charge of GB. He didn't seem to find it impossible.
It's not like he has been locked away from the game.
I'd bet he's more aware of what's going on than any of us.
Man management is the same skill regardless of the sport and he has tons of experience in that.
Your problem seems to be a personal one based on something that you didn't like in an interview. Not really the best way to judge someone.
Giz is a class act and he will one day coach us.

| It's not personal at all, iv never met the bloke.
What exactly are you basing your argument for him coaching Wigan on? Please expand
He's never coached top level RL and there's quite a big list of coaches in OZ that would be way above in the pecking order for the Wigan job. Even David furner, who served his time as an assistant. People want Edwards because "he's a Wiganer" I'm afraid, the not much more you can base your arguement on.

This is true if you're absolutely determined to ignore Edwards's RU experience. But you're wrong to be 100% certain that it rules him out. Mark Bitcon came to us direct from RU, and is regarded as one of the best conditioners in the game. RU is not a clowning amateur sport any more.
I too feel that Edwards would struggle initially and would need to serve an apprenticeship as an assistant, but in writing him off totally you're going OTT, and I suspect this actually does stem from some personal dislike. Don't start denying this by insisting that you don't know him - we've already established that, after first listening to you tell everyone what a horrible person he is.
And I wouldn't chuck all your eggs into the Aussie coaches basket either - with the exception of Michael Maguire there haven't been too many good ones over here for several years, and even Maguire let us all down by dashing back home the first moment a new opportunity arose there.
