| That sounds bonkers to me.
Quite apart from anything else, you'd think there was a queue of better qualified around the block for the job. There isn't, and with the resources available to him this season SW has done fine in my book. The best you can achieve in the Super Eights is to finish in the first two and secure a home tie in the semi. We have done that: I don't see what more people expect.

| Quote sergeant pepper="sergeant pepper"Not sure what you expect? A big well done for doing his job right? It's quite simple really he's the head coach of Wigan RL - if he isn't winning games or winning trophies he's failing.
If we don't win the GF then 24 months without a trophy is unacceptable and should cost him his job.'"
You must be hell to live with mate.
A little bit of praise goes a long way I tend to find. Are you really that miserable or have you just created this online persona?

Are you always this easily pleased?
For me Wane is currently doing the bare minimum expected from a Wigan coach but yet he's made out to be some sort of messiah.
I see the work Powell has done with a very ordinary set of players and I wonder how or why we struggle with some of the quality at our disposal.
I think Wigan deserve more than 2nd place finishes and early cup exits you obviously don't.

| Er, the season isn't over...
Powell has indeed done a very decent job. His team still finished nine points behind us, though.

| Quote Aboveusonlypie="Aboveusonlypie"Why blame Shaun Wane then?
Or is that just the default position when you haven't got a clue?
It's been noticeably quiet on here lately as we are within sniffing distance of yet another GF under SW.'"
Who rattled your cage?
I am actually a SW fan but if he let Thornley go without too much of an effort to retain him then I think he was probably wrong in this instance. I don't know if this was the case so I said so. Is that ok?
Just because I'm a fan of the club and the coach it doesn't mean I think they are infallible.
It's called having an opinion and not being a nodding dog to everything you are told or led to believe.
Also if I don't know something I actually say so. Is that ok?
I said in January we were very weak in the centres and it could be said so are several other teams as there is a distinct lack of quality centres in the competition. I think that is a fact so is that ok?

| Burgess didn't look fully fit on Friday night and the more important the game the bigger the risk.
If he isn't fit then we have two excellent wingers who can play.
Centre are the vulnerable positions with Gelling dropped and Sarginson injured whoever takes over is filling in. Is that the situation we are going into the semis with?
I'd play Gelling at 3 as I think him, Joel and Manfredi are a lethal attacking force. They are big, fast, mobile and great passing and offloading games with Dom a terrific finisher. At times earlier in the season they were virtually unplayable. Daft as Gelling can be I do think Waney should have kept him in the team and worked hard to get that attacking threat back into form after all the injuries. Despite his howler against Saints Bowen was selected and missed another bomb when it was contested by Cas. He got away with it that time, often he doesn't as we well know. Waney is taking a massive risk with Bowen at full back going into a semi and hopefully a final. After the Saints debacle I think he should have gone with Hampshire rather than Bowen.
The 19 will probably be the usual suspects, the 17 could define our season.

| Gelling always take 5 or 6 games to get firing again which is the big worry for me. I think he's a risk we may have to take though if Burgess isn't fully fit.

| I'll be surprised if Gelling plays even if Burgess isn't fit. Wane wouldn't drop him for Cas and then pick him for a Semi against Huddersfield.

Probably right. I expect it to be Bateman and Gildart but that's really risky against two big centres in Cudjoe and Wardle.

Err who said that it is......
Do people just read what they want with posts?
No one has said Cas are a better side than us. All I said was Powell has squeezed the absolute maximum out of what is a very average bunch of youngsters, journeymen & players who failed at big clubs. I don't think you'll see much improvement from them as DP has already gotten far more than he should have.
Now i don't think you can say the same with Wane at Wigan as there's been quite a few established playets who have simply been 'ok' (Smith, Crosby, Charnley, Mossop, Joel etc).
