I have a 100 mile journey after every game living near Coventry and I always stay to applaud the lads off the field, what's 10 minutes when you have a 2 hour journey to look forward to....lol!!!!!!!

If the club can give me a free car park pass for being 1 of the 100 furthest away ST holders then I can give them an extra 10 minutes

people pay their money and are free to leave whenever they want. just because they may not stay to the end doesnt mean they are any lesser of a fan than others

we have this thread every year along with other corkers such as 'Name your top 5 all time wigan players' and 'whens the new kit out'

Of course people are free to leave, just as they are free to leave a film or gig. Would you sit through 75 minutes of a film and leave 5 minutes before the end when you don't know whodunnitt?

And actually it does make you a lesser fan...Fan is short for fanatic. Not very fanatical leaving before the result is known is it? Still, it is more fanatical than not even bothering to go at all.

Those who stay the longest, clap the loudest and go to the most games aren't any better fans than anyone else. Neither is it the case that the best fans are always positive about the team all the time. Part of being fans is having different opinions. Dave O on here has some crackers but I don't think you can doubt his sincerity as a Wigan fan. As for attendance, some of the most knowledgeable fans I know don't manage to/can no longer get to Wigan games anymore - it doesn't mean they're not 'proper' fans

Who said anything about being critical? Of course proper fans can be critical. But I would have thought that anyone calling themselves a fan (ie being fanatical) would 1. Actually attend the games and 2. Actually stay to see what the result was. How can you argue any different?

It doesn't mean that those who attend all the games, like me, are any more knowledgeable about the game as a whole. Of course it is perfectly possible for someone who hardly bothers at all to be VERY knowledgeable. But is doesn't make them a FAN does it? Look up the meaning of 'fanatical' and see if it fits with the description of someone who doesn't bother to stay and see the result.

This is not a rant against anyone who leaves early or doesn't bother to go at all. They are free to air their opinions just like anyone else. They may once have been proper fans - but they are NOT proper fans any longer are they?

well i shall bow down to your better judgement as you are obviously a better fan than i am. i shall forever be shamed by your greatness. i only wish i was a fan who left early as that would make me better than i am now as i dont go to the games despite living about 2 miles away from the ground

i shall now go and cry in a corner and think about what i have done (or havent done in this case)

You seem to be upset by my post, that wasn't my intention. And I wasn't claiming to be great although you did seem to thrust greatness upon me. It is highly likely that your life is richer and more varied than mine. In fact going every week to see Wigan play would be seen in some quarters as quite sad. But then that is one part of being 'fanatical'. And this is a 'fans forum'.

I never ignore your posts, you usually have something witty to say. I suspect that you don't ignore mine either or you wouldn't have replied!

I once got to a match at Central Park 20 mins late so chose to stand on the bridge with all the other scrubbers.
