I'm on the Wigan page, i don't expect a love in and wait for the extreme partisan response, but the truth is no one else cares about Wigans gripe with Tomkins going to NRL to better himself, i'm chuffed for him as i would be any player that went there.

I think it's the Burgess thing that's put it more into context for me even than the Tomkins defection.

The thought that even the gold-plated NRL may be no protection when the likes of Bath are looking to plug another gap is pretty heart-breaking.

The Burgess thing won't happen.
Bath would have to pay a fortune to Sydney, all though Bath can afford to pay a massive wage and a massive transfer fee IF all went to plan and Burgess made the England set up then he would be central contracted and not play for Bath, a massive outlay for a player they'd hardly see in a Bath shirt.
They wanted help funding the transfer from the RFU but the other clubs vetoed, why should they all help to pay to make a rival stronger.
Unless the club's budge or Bath take the full hit for little domestic reward it won't happen.
The NRL has actually helped here inadvertently because they would demand massive amount of compensation. If he was playing in SL, the cost to the RFU would be minimal.
The RFU has to get them while they're over here or wait until the contracts in the NRL run out.
Or someone has more than than sense funds a player that could potentially flop, it's too much of a risk.
In short, people are making more of this than is necessary.
