| Quote Cherry.Pie="Cherry.Pie"I don't really understand the relevance GB is supposed to have? No Welsh, Irish or Scottish fans had any interest in GB and pretty much every game was played in England. Basically every player in the team was English! It was an England squad not a GB squad so I'm not surprised they switched to just plain old England.
At least with the individual nations competing there's a chance that some Welsh, Irish or Scottish fans would turn up to watch their team. Even if it's just in tiny numbers it's people who are interested in watching the game.
I really don't see how going back to GB would make any difference at all.'"
Irish internationals include:
Brian Carney
Ben Harrison
Chris Bridge
Barrie Mcdermott
Terry O'Connor
Gary Connolly
Francis Cummins
Sean Edwards
Bernard Dwyer
Wales internationals include:
Keiron cunningham
Lee Briers
Anthony Sullivan
Iestyn Harris
Billy Boston
Jonathan Davies
Lewis Jones
Scottish Internationals include:
Danny Brough
Marc Calderwood
Majority of which have played for GB, some for England which is just my point. If theyre so quick to switch countries then we might aswell just go back to GB have done with it!
Keiron Cunningham and Lee Briers have never played for "plain old England"

But what would happen at the world cup? Would it just be a Great Britain team? It would be daft to split the nations up again just for that one tournament but without the other nations the world cup is a bit pointless.
I think it's a bit pointless anyway but it has to happen if the sport is to be taken seriously at international level.

GB competed and also won the Rugby League World Cup in 1954, 1960 and 1972. Its only since 95' that the home nations have competed the world cup as seperate teams.
The RL world cup is a joke anyway, 95', 2000, 2008, 2013. Wheres the consistency?
Wales, Ireland, Scotland will never be at a decent level to compete with OZ and NZ Anyway.

Now come on.
The majority of those would choose England if they were good enough.

| Quote stillinthepast="stillinthepast"It has really been brought home to me what R/L clubs are up against having to compete against R/U.
The Wales v France match tomorrow in New Zealand will have a sellout crowd of 60,000, with up to 20,000 Welsh fans expected to be in the stadium.
What is even more amazing is the fact that the Millenium Stadium is opening in the morning so Welsh fans can watch the match on big screens. At present 65,000 free tickets for this event have been issued . One sad fact about this though is that tickets for the TV screening are appearing on ebay at £50.00 per pair.
How can R/L compete against this kind of support ?.'"
When I first posted this article it was meant to highlight why it was so hard for R/L players to turn down offers to go to Union and it seems that people may not have understood what I was really trying to put accross.
It as suddenly turned into a disscussion about the merits of the make up a G/B team against a split of Wales Ireland and Scotland.
The question I was really asking was,how can a player turn down an offer from Union which will at least quadruple his wages and allow him to play in packed stadiums all round the world.
This point was emphasised a few weeks ago when it was said on here that a young player who signed a professional contract with Wigan said he had to find a part time job to make a living.

I think you may have forgot to highlight the point you mean when trying to put your point across in asking a question you didnt actually ask??
An RL convert to RU is not always destined to succeed and reach the heady heights of Ashton, Robinson etc. But if the RU wants to throw the money their way unfortunately at the moment RL just cant compete!

I think I understand your point Rhino, but when you say about not all converts make it does not mean that these lads should not try. You cant blame them, they can always come back to league having thebuilt up the basis of a nice pension pot.
