| Quote MadDogg="MadDogg"Seems a long shot that Reed will opt to play for England.
I don't want Jamie Peacock anywhere near the England 17.'"
Talk about picking a player of reputation, could any body tell me when was the last time Peacock had a good game, or even what year it was.

| Seriously, people need to stop throwing NRL players in, just because they play in the NRL. You need established wing/centre, and halfback partnerships if you're going to be competitive. England don't spend enough time together and don't play enough games to develop partnerships of their own, and it's MADNESS to throw a pair of halfbacks who have never met each other into a game against Australia. Therefore, Gareth Widdop should not be selected, for that very reason. Shove him on the bench if you must, but he MUST NOT START.
Similarly, I like Kirk Yeaman very much, but Tom Briscoe isn't good enough, so I'd leave Yeaman out. I'd sooner see Atkins or Bridge alongside, say, Chris Riley, and you'd have to have rocks in your head to not consider a Joel Tomkins/Charnley partnership. Maybe it's too early, but they're going well.
As for halfbacks, I'm struggling to name an established English halfback partnership if I'm honest, and we've not had a decent one since Long and Pryce. It's a shame Briers is Welsh, as Richie Myler has at last found some form. It pains me to say it, but it's hard to look any further than the three at Huddersfield - Brown, Brough and Robinson.
The difference in Australia is that all the teams are coached - and seem to play - in very similar ways, so it's easier to put players from different clubs together. Here, teams play very differently from each other, and that's where our problem is, not quality of individual players.

| Quote tugglesf78="tugglesf78"Charnley is a year or two away currently for sure. Mossop has been a monster for Wigan this year and serious questions need to be asked if he is not in the England 17. I do think he will be picked tbh. McBanana was singing his praises a few weeks back.
:'"
Mossop should be a shoe in although he probably won't be.
His shoulder may rule him out anyway.

| When we play the Aussies and Kiwis we need to offload every tackle and give it to them, if we let them play and show them respect we will get tonked, if we are aggressive in defence and throw it about a bit in attack we will do ok, most times we have beaten the Aussies we have given to them as they 'don't like it up em'. Bit of biff at the start wouldn't go amiss either.
Kicking the ball dead to take out Slaters kick returns would help and pressure from the markers 'Jason Hooper style' on their kickers would help us.
No doubt with McBanana we will get hammered.

Widdop is the only British stand off with any real quality. He's proving that he can hold his own against the very best in the world and it would be crazy to leave him out. Then to suggest leaving him out in favour of Kevin Brown is ridiculous. The idea of Brown as an international standard player is laughable. He's just not good enough and teams shouldn't be picked specifically on team partnerships. The combination of Brown, Brough and Robinson isn't even the best in Super League so to put them on the international stage would be crazy.
The best players in the best positions should make the side. If there is a partnership that could be good enough then it makes sense to give it a go but when the difference in quality means leaving out a very good player like Widdop in favour of an incredibly average player like Brown it just isn't worth it.
And you'd have Atkins or Bridge alongside Riley? You think that Chris Riley would be the best choice for England on the wing because he'll be playing alongside a team mate? It makes no sense to severely weaken the team just to pick club combinations.

| We have some great young backs coming through.
The likes of Sam, BJB, McGilvaray, Reed, Charnley, Briscoe, Widdop etc fill me with alot more confidence than the likes of Wellens, Gardner, Senior, Calderwood, Skyes, Smith etc did.
Still not anywhere near the freakish talents of Australia but its an improvement!
Just wish we had a decent coach.

Isnt Reed expected to to put himself forward for the Aussies so he can play for Queensland in SOO. And Lomax over Widdop. Widdop has been sensational for Melbourne in a team top of a far superior competition. Lomax is a good young player but not in the same league as Widdop

| 1. Tomkins - Obvious choice
2. Hall - His size and work-rate is a big asset. Good mobility and superb finisher.
3. Bridge - Need a bit of a poop house in the 3/4's who will ruffle feathers). Can cover the halves if needed.
4. Yeaman - Strong as an ox and punches well above his weight. Come good this year, very good.
5. Briscoe - A good long range try scorer. Defense is very good.
6. Widdop - Having a blinding season from what i gather. Eager to see him play as he is still an unknown quality by most i would imagine.
7. Lomax - Going to be a cracker. Get him blooded early against the big two.
8. Morley - Does exactly what it says on the tin.
9. Roby - See above
10. Carvell - Old school brute of a prop. Another who has realized his potential. Top, top player. In the starting squad to help "mix it" early doors.
11. Westwood - If fit?. No frills battering ram who love the rough stuff. Best 2nd rower in SL
12. Ellis - Again if fit.
13. Lockers - Mercurial passer, supremely consistent and a work horse in defense.
14. Mossop - Never seen him driven backwards, defensibly sound and good size. Deceptively quick also. Going to be world class in a few years
15. Tomkins J - Coming good in the and a proven test 2nd rower. Fantastic utility value. Not afraid to mix it either.
16. Graham - Would normally been a shoe in for a starting berth. Let him batter defenses after the initial tear up. A fresh Graham appearing off the bench would not be a nice sight for the opposition.
17. Hock - Say what you like the guy is a game winner. Offloading will be the name of the game against tight defenses. With Lomax and Sam in support, we have a very potent weapon at our disposal.

not sure on reed tbh ive heard and seen articles that hes playing for aussie then england but the last time which wasnt long ago was that hes decided to play for england and is expected to play in the 4 nations hopefully anyway, as for lomax over widdop i just feel widdop is very much a off the cuff player a talented one at that but lomax gives you that individual brilliance but is a creative and a better orginising half which england need.

Agree with all that except for Lomax, for me Danny Brough is a must, without him we dont have a kicker. Widdop doesnt kick for Melbourne due to Smith and Cronk, Lockers and Sam cant kick for toffee and im not so sure with Lomax's kicking game as it is. The last thing we need is a kick straight in the arms of Slater, he'd rip us to pieces. Lomax should possibly be on the bench, maybe in place of Joel or Hock, just to give us that extra spark or even as a rotation hooker
