| Quote SmokeyTA="SmokeyTA"It was up until 07 i think it was when Carnegie was sold(given) to LMU, since then it has become owned by Caddick not by the rhinos, those accounts only apply to the rhinos, except for the money transferred between the two. Which i think was abotu £300k for rent paid to the Rhinos and about £250k in 'management charges' paid to Carnegie from the rhinos.'" Nope - Leeds CF&A Ltd has ALWAYS been only the operations of Leeds RLFC and the operation of the Headingley Rugby League stadium which that company owns. The RU stuff has always been kept in an entirely separate company.
Sales of assets and rent from the RU club have nothing to do with headline turnover as they go through the accounts as profit on disposal of assets and other operating income respectively. That £10.5m turnover for the 10 months to October 2009 is purely generated by the operations of Leeds RLFC and Headingley stadium.
It shows, if nothing else, what Wigan are missing out on by not owning their own ground and having all the corporate and non matchday revenue streams that brings in - although Leeds are doubly lucky in terms of location as I suspect the Wigan conference/function marketplace isn't quite as mature.

| Quote manoa thompsons knees="manoa thompsons knees"for Wigan 2008-2009 according to the league express, if correct is it so low because of the stadium situtation, or is there other factors.

Full marks to IL on increasing turnover to 4.5m in 2009 .... t/o was 3.9m the year before.
Turnover should break 5m next year .... the 2010 figures will include the takings from the shopping centre unit, increased crowds and related cross sales.
The current loss of 0.5m relates to write off of player transfer fees in 2009 rather than writing the amount off over a number of years. This change in "book keeping" procedures has resulted in a reported loss of 0.5m for 2009, otherwise a loss of c. 140k would have been recorded. Based on t/o of 5m the club should break even next year.
Whilst income streams from the ground might be restricted we have many benefits as tenants .... no ground maintenance fees (the landlord pays for the annual relaying of the pitch), a modern stadium with a suitable capacity .... all for the price of a few steak pies and a 10% (?) cut of the gate.
More than happy that the club is in safe hands, with a strategy for the future ..... you must be doing a good job IL judging by the growing number of digs at the Wigan club by some of our neighbouring minnows !

Interesting then, that one of those 'minnows' had a turnover of £5.74 million for the same period.

You are having me on? Mick Hogan was lauded to the hilt on this board for what he did and how he did it. Now he wasn't a vital cog! Give over.
One of the things the RFL require is a club not being over reliant on one individual and they require clubs to have a chief exec. When IL first took over and we got our "B" rating one of the criticisms and why we didn't get an "A" was at the the time we were reliant on IL as he has basically just bought the club with his own cash and due to how Whelan ran it, it didn't operate as a self sufficient business. Appointing a CEO like Hogan and having an effective board is what clubs are supposed to do so they are not reliant on one man.
Without a CEO we are little different in terms of who runs the club now than we were under Mo. IL is in sole charge as was Mo. The fact IL is running it better and we have had a successful season doesn't alter that (though it does allow him to get away with stuff Mo would be hung out to dry for) and if IL got run over by a bus tomorrow where would we be?

| If IL had got run over by a bus yesterday we would be in the same situation today whether we had a CEO or not.
The club is owned by IL and the Lenagan family.
What his NOK would do is anyone's guess but if they did look to sell the club I don't think this time around there would be a shortage of buyers.
As has been said the club is now run on a sound financial basis with the very real possibility of a profit year ending 2010.
This is what IL has acheived, he has brought the club into a financially viable operation and I'm sure this will continue.
I do hope IL goes nowhere near buses, he owns a beautiful car which should prevent him needing to use his bus pass.

He was mainly lauded on this board, if memory serves, for returning people's phone-calls.
If you've got personal knowledge of other perhaps more valuable duties that he performed superbly well in the name of Wigan RL, and which the club are now desperately missing, I'd love to hear about them.
I see no reason to assume that IL won't appoint a new CEO when he feels the club needs one.

You know very well that is not true. He was credited on this board by many for many of the marketing initiatives the club has undertaken for example. And in any case the contact he had with people wasn't just being polite but to actually explain why the club did various things for which he was rightly commended on.

You know I don't go to academy games either. I am sure you get what I mean by that!
Diminishing Hogan's input is typical of what happens on here. He's the best thing since sliced bread but now he's gone he wasn't that important after all. Ridiculous. Mind you it would never do to say otherwise would it or that might imply IL had forgotten how to walk on water.
And just to get the record straight IL has done a great job but pointing out the odd flaw in the set up isn't sacrilege.

It would be easier to take over as a going concern than having to disentangle the finances if it were run by IL as DW ran it but in terms of who calls the shots we are still a one man band. A CEO is supposed to be given a job to do by the owner(s)/shareholders and left to get on with it. Now it just might be our previous CEO didn't get that sort of autonomy and just maybe got too much interference from IL.
