He is spot on. Value signings are all well and good, but at some point, you need to spend on a top quality player who will make the difference, I would hate to think we are paying Riddell & Roberts that kind of money.
We will win nothing with the squad we have.

| Well I'd like a couple of quality signings and along with most other people it would be a half back and a prop but I still can't take Offiah's article seriously.
His position is it wasn't the coaches fault but the lack of quality players. How about a bit of both? And how about the coach not getting some of our players to deliver the quality many consider them capable of? Lack of conditioning and so on?
It's been done to death on here and most people do not think IMO that just two players alone would make all the difference in the same way they don't think "get us fit and we will be champions" because while these things may get us to the top four unless the other issues are addressed with the rest of the squad we still won't be realising the potential of the team.
Still what else would expect form a players agent?
Is he the only players agent who is regularly commenting in the press? I can't recall any others and if so he needs to realise when he talks about any clubs recruitment as he is an agent people will think he has an agenda.

| Offiah is correct. IMO and ive said it on another thread that we are 2/3 signings short of a really good title contending team

| He might be an agent, but you've got to agree with him. We've got a team full of grafters, but way short on quality (and in some cases, fitness). We need a scrum half, forward or two and a centre/wing who can turn a game. Don't forget that losing Hock is a huge blow for next season too...

Imo we’ve got the game changing centre already in Gleeson. We all know what he can do with space and quick ball but rarely does he get it imo. The problem is after being coached by Cullen, Lowes and then Noble he’s majorly out of form and low on confidence.
We can all see we need that extra prop and I haven’t seen one person say that it isn’t what we need either…………the first thing the majority agrees on it seems.

Thats the worry i have with Wigan, are we paying Coley what Leeds are paying Peacock? Riddell what Buderus is on (i knows he missed most the year) etc etc. Fielden is on stupid money and id expect we will get 2 players and money spare for what hes on.

| Quote Bilko="Bilko"Whilst I agree 12 losses is far too many and 6th was a very poor regular season, compared to previous seasons regular hammerings were not seen and that was an improvement. Most of the losses were close apart from Huddersfield in Round 27 when we had nothing to play for.
So at least we have moved forward in that regard but now we need to turn narrow defeats into wins and 2 signings is probably about right but I'm not sure they have to be "top quality". We just need a couple of players who will graft a good job.
A scrum half still remains a must for me. Leuluai is useful with ball in hand but his kicking game is very limited. Doing reports every week I've remarked time and time again that our tactical kicking game was poor and that was the difference in my view between 6th and the top 4 in the regular season and possibly the difference between a narrow semi final loss and a Grand Final in the play offs.
Much as I agree with the idea of a new scrum half and shift Lulu, unless you can off load Riddell it cannot happen as we would have another hooker/half back sitting doing very little every week. Sadly as much as a new SF would improve the team it does not work as good use of money compared to say buying a prop.
If we can get rid of Riddell then fine, if we cannot then an additional SF just does not work.
Sadly
I still think Danny Brough would be the ideal 7 to Sam Tomkins at 6 (or the other way round). He's not "top quality" but he has all the skills required in the kicking department and would be the perfect foil for Sam. Stick Leuluai in at 9 and I think the balance is much better.'"

| How many times does it need to be said that we need to bring a prop, it's now become so glaringly obvious that Martin "I can't string to words together" Offiah has noticed it. Let's get a prop in and go from there, if we can win the arm wrestle more than we lose it then were heading in the right direction.

It’s glaringly oblivious isn’t it.
I don’t know what the reasons are why we haven’t gone out and got one or if we are looking at any but the fact still remains we need a new prop.
We know the chairman reads this board I just hope he sees this one thing more than anything else.
GET A NEW PROP PLEASE MR CHAIRMAN

| Personally I'm not convinced prop forward is the biggest issue. I think half back is a bigger problem. The props can do all the work in the world but if we put in a poor kick at the end of their efforts (which we constantly do), it reflects badly of them when perhaps it shouldn't.

There's no doubting that are poor kicking game contributes just as much to are poor field position as are lack of go-forward, it's just a case of which do we address first. I very much doubt that we'd be able to bring in a prop and halfback at the same time, we may well have to choose one above the other.

| Offiah's such a joke - the comments were to create publicity for his new 'Fifty of the Greatest Tries book' - which is fair enough.
But reading the blurb for the book on Amazon he 'celebrates the achievements of other great players, team-mates and foes alike. From David Topliss to Kyle Eastmond , Clive Sullivan to Wally Lewis'
Does the man have no shame!
