Also yes you are right in that Whitley and Wingfield would not be in a first choice 17 but they would be first choice replacements. So instead of those we are looking at Royle and Davies- a huge drop off
There is no doubt Wigan have the stronger squad and I know you are missing a few too, I just feel that our absentees will impact us much more.'"
Hurrell, Walmsley and Makinson are massive metre makers against us in the past. The first 2 are good for an offload too.
Other than Paasi we seem to handle the others okay.
If however is playing hooker holds up okay for us, it should be a Wigan win.

| Quote: Stu M "Incidentally looks like Briers is coming to Saints after all. Matt Shaw and John Davidson now reporting. I was told this on the 9th June on a night out and laughed at the lad who told me. Looks like he was spot on.
And Saints are appealing the appeal for Mbye. Must think we have a real chance.'"
Assistant coach I believe.

Now he's thrown in against the best team in the comp away from home.'"
Gotta start somewhere.

Ben Davies is an interesting one. I’ve always liked him. Think he could do a job in SL for a lot of clubs.
I’m not saying we should be all over him but I think their is potentially a very good player in there.

Genuinely not sure what games you have been watching him in or how many but he is the epitome of bog standard. Him and Royle are just not Saints standard.

| I think the truth around Davies is somewhere in between the two posts above. He was far more impressive under Woolf than he has been recently, whether that's through tactics or lack of opportunity I'm not sure. I don't see where he ever starts regularly for an ambitious club but a good reserve to have with a bit of utility. I think he could get a bigger contract and a starting gig in lower SL but wouldn't be surprised if he stayed in a similar role he has now.

| As for the rest, it's very quiet on the recruitment and retention. With quota spots potentially to play with it will be interesting to see what develops.
I believe Mata'uita is off which would be a real shame, he's been immense. Hurrell I'd replace, there were some rumours about Opacic coming in a couple of weeks ago and that seems to make sense, doesn't quite carry the physical threat but pretty skilful and much better defensively.
I'd lean towards keeping Blake although he's been very hot and cold. I think that's a theme with most Antipodean signings in their first year though, and would expect some improvement. Providing he wants to stay of course.
Burns showed up well on debut and is certainly worth keeping. The rest I can take or leave depending on what cap they take up, who is coming through the academy to the first team.

Opacic looks solid and not much more whenever I watch him. I can't lie, I hope he signs for Saints over Hurrell. He might not be the best defensively Hurrell but he always causes you problems and in a side that is very good overall defensively (when at it's best), somebody like Hurrell can come up with a moment that can be the difference in tight games. If Opacic dropped in to this Saints side currently, he'd make little to no difference in attack.
