| Quote WWste="WWste"Not at the races tonight us. Salford were amazing and I thought they eventually drop of but didn’t until 75mins in. At times looked like we was overplaying, glimpses of last year came back. Noticed Byrne didn’t come back on, is he injured again? Fields looks a bit leggy, sure he’ll be rested for the CC
Wardle once again quietly gone about his business. He’s world class'"
I was wondering about Byrne at the game but just after I mentioned him to my mate, he came back on for about 5/6 mins at the end.
I’ll forgive the players that tonight. We looked flat from minute one but you can fully understand it and we move on.

| To manage the emotion of the WCC and be 4/4 shows mettle, we can't be great every week.

| I was applauding Salford after 75 minutes. Fantastic rugby from them. The six tackle set they had just after they had taken the lead was brilliant. Nene Macdonald was brilliant. He never stopped all game. Tim Lafai a handful too. Sneyd up until the obvious moment was top class.
We were way off our best but what an effort from our boys to drag them over the line for the drop out. LOVED the passion from Thompson. We had a tough period a man down camped in our end where I thought Salford would win it. They didn't. We come up with that effort and got the rewards from it.

| Smith getting yellow changed the game for us.
We have fallen into a pattern of trying to bully teams and be one very formulaic. 5 drives and a kick, try to grind out the win.
French wasn’t involved till Smith betting yellow forced him into action.
Poor game very dull was like watching the bad old days of Brian Noble.
Attack isn’t clicking but I think that is a tactic at the moment.
We are still suffering a little hangover from Penrith in my opinion but we picked up the win.
Sign of a good side, having a bad night but still winning.

| Yea I think we can forgive the lads for not being 100% after going 3/3 and winning WCC. I don’t want to underestimate any team but this CC game has come at the right time hopefully regroup play a reduced side give those who need it a rest and be fresh for GF.

I think it was wetter than came across on TV which historically does not suit us.
Lacked energy and intensity but as said very understandable. Thought Miski, Farrell and O'Neill were our best although Abbas is struggling under those high kicks again. Hopefully we can use the next fortnight to reset and be back to our best on Good Friday - getting the win tonight means we can approach that game without much pressure.

Byrne finished the game. Field was way out of position for Salford’s second try.

| Just another thought - I don't think we need three props on the bench - we have durable front rowers in Thompson, Byrne and Dupree. Said before the game that I think that we need to be prioritising Nsemba over Isa going forward but at the very least he needs to be on the bench.

I thought it was Jai's worst game in a Wigan shirt by some distance.
After the chip-through for Marshal, he never looked dangerous once. Actually seemed unwilling to inject himself into the action.

I said in the week I’d play Nsemba over Forber if Peet would answer the question of ‘would you give Forber minutes in a tight game?’ as no. I can understand why he kept O’Neill out there but it’s not the first time now where a youngster has been left on the bench.
Willie Isa has been a punchbag for some people for a while but he definitely looks to be slowing down a little and errors are creeping in. I don’t think having to do the 80 mins is doing him any favours and I’d be looking to play Nsemba from the bench from Good Friday onwards and until Walters is back.

Good summary, I was thinking all game “we have strike in the back why don’t we use it”.
Kinda perfect game for us, a bad performance to give us a wake up call that we aren’t as good as we think we are, but still getting the 2 points. GF on the horizon hopefully we can lock in.
To get 2 tries without our general and in them horrid conditions (don’t know if it came across on sky how bad it was) is good going.
Luck with the short drop out but insane effort to force the drop out the play before.
