Despite him being a Saints player i have actually had a lot of respect for Paul Wellens since he made a name for himself in Superleague. He's always been solid and always comes accross as a pretty decent person when interviewed, he was certanly honest in his post match interview earlier in saying that Wigan are just better than everyone else at the moment, its hard to argue with that.
However whilst some of his team mates that were part of a great Saints team a few years back have moved on, Wellens has remained and looks like a lost figure these days who seems more intent on chatting to the referee than encouraging his team mates. I was suprised that he did not retire last season and even as a Wigan fan its kind of sad to see a good player be so cruelly exposed as he was (yet again) today.
I thought the Saints dressing room at half-time was very insightful into the current problems at Saints as was the body language of the Saints players when Wigan scored their second try - they just looked devoid of all ideas and like Wigan before Madge arrived they look to have a real leadership issue.
Time to retire Paul.

Wellens has been a great servant to the game and to Sts. He probably has played a year too long at full back though.

| I have heard a whisper that he wants to take part in the RL sprint races to prove people are wrong who say his pace has gone.
If he does take part ,instead of a stop watch to time him they will have to use a Calendar. |

wellens was due to run a leg of the Marathon torch relay, but the organisers have had to cancel him as they need the torch in 60 days time. |
