| Quote NickyKiss="NickyKiss"I said before we got knocked out of the play offs that I'd trade a grand final win for us if England could win this four nations. We can blame all sorts of different factors for the international games slow death but let's face it the main one is a lack of genuine success. If we could get that success on Saturday the game in this country will receive such a boost. The international game will hopefully start to rise again and become the pinnacle of the sport bringing in the sort of funds it should do which will help clubs at all levels.
Saturday is far bigger then any grand final or challenge cup final and a win to me would mean everything!'"
Well said.
My greatest ever day as an RL fan was being in Melbourne when we beat the Aussies in 1992, and were so close to winning that series. IF and its a big IF we can win on Saturday then
1) It will get us some well earned publicity and recognition.
2) It should also give us some belief in the the future of the International game.

| Well I backed England @ 5/1 to win when Wales were ahead last night, so I would enjoy it if that came in.
Beating the Aussies in any sport is always great.
Be great for OUR game

| Quote DaveO="DaveO"[uIt would be fantastic if England won but would not mean as much to me personally as winning an Ashes series. The best of three tests v the Aussies is the bigger achievement IMO but I will still be very happy with an England win.[/u
The crowds have been good and I think they would shoot up for the World Cup on the back of some England success.
I am fed up with the club game being seen as the pinnacle of RL sport. The one thing RU can teach us is that a meaningful International competition is what generates the most publicity and money and an England win would go along way to helping us down that particular road.'"
My thoughts exactly, an Ashes series win would be preferable, also as Great Britain not England, but any victory over Australia would be very welcome.

| It would be quite nice to be able to say to all those players who left Rugby League because they'd 'won everything there was to win' - "Here's something you didn't win, and now never will."
Slightly more seriously, I think the spin-off for the British game would be immense. We can talk excitedly among ourselves about how well-balanced SL is and how it's great to watch competitive domestic matches, but out in the real world we are increasingly seen as a feeder sport for RU. Plus, I don't think it helps our status that our 'big brother - i.e. the Aussie game - doesn't give two hoots about us. Now they've got Origin, international RL could disappear tomorrow and they wouldn't care.
To win a major international tournament would turn all this around somewhat, certainly in terms of publicity. Okay, the Aussies would make their usual pile of churlish excuses, but they would be stung and may feel sufficiently challenged to help make the World Cup into a major event.
In short it could be just the boost we need, at just the right time.

Great post. A full house and an England win would do wonders for the game in this country, especially with all the negative publicity hitting RU at the moment.

| If We win against Australia I would feel happier than I did winning A grand final and I mean that ,not just because I am an Aussie hater[only on the sporting field, but I really do think our game is in need of this. All our games have been infinately better than the ru wc .It would do us the world of good, but this time its not enough to lose and play very well,we must win.I and I think some of you will have been on one or two aussie forums and pages last few weeks, and after our last game against them I read one comment "the poms played well ,but not good enough" "we taught the poms the game"etc Yes I am an Aussie hater come on England ,they think the greates game was born in 1908

For me if we make a good account of ourselves next weekend ill be happy. Then the key is to build on what we have achieved going forward.
Imagine Ellis, Burgess, O'Loughlin, Mossop added to that team with Widdop and Reed having another full season of NRL rugby under their belts - the future appears to be much brighter than I first thought.

| An England Four Nations win, for me, be worth more than winning the grand final for the next ten years.
As the OP says, I've seen Wigan do it all, but I've never seen my country win anything other than the odd test match. It's about time we won a final, and what a boost it would provide for the World Cup campaign. Not only to finally get this hoodoo off our backs, but also to give us confidence that we could back it up with another tournament win.
