I don't think they are tbh in terms of Marsh over Charnley. Mcguire and Wane both rate Steffan Marsh very highly and i'd say all the eveidence points to them having him ahead of Charnley in the pecking order. They gave him chances at Wigan last year ahead of Charnley and then going into this season they only played Charnley in a reserve side at Barrow choosing not to select Marsh and now Marsh is starting above Charnley in our last pre season game.
I don't see it on first team preformences so far but i'd say it's obvious they have Marsh ahead of Charnley so far.

| Quote: Newton-Le-willows-Warrior "interesting if that team is to play, joel looks set to start at centre!'"
Feeling Joel at centre is with the WCC in mind and testing him out there-
Was thinking this the other day and Joel at centre for the WCC seems the only sensible option - With Pat and Finch out, and no interchange hooker, I think Sam HAS to go back in the halves and go with the recognised pairing of Sam and Tommy, to allow Deacon to give us options off the bench - If not, we would have to go with Tommy and Deacs in the halves and no option of a pivot off the bench to mix it up!
Therefore, Sam in the halves means Amos has to go back to FB, which leaves us with only one recognised established winger in the rest of the backs.
So for me the equation is either Joel to centre, or risk Charnley or Marsh, who while will in time be undoubted good uns....do we really fancy putting them up against their frankly frightning 3/4 line of Cooper / Gasnier/ Morris/ or Nightingale?! Also putting Joel to centre frees up a space for SR where we are immensely strong.
For me the only option for the backs for this game will be with Joel in the centre, lining up something like
Amos, Gleeson, Joel, Carmont, Goulding, Sam, Tommy, Lima, McIllurum, Fielden, Hoffman, Hansen, O'Loughlin. With Deacon and three from Prescott Coley Farrell Tuson Mossop on the bench.
When you look at their backline though compared to ours without Richards and Finch, you realise we're goin to have to make it one almightly foward battle to have a chance IMO.

I wouldnt read so much into it mate, especially when they are both in the squad anyway. The game means nothing & as Madge has already said, everyone is playing for their place at Cardiff. I'd be very surprised if one got more game time than the other on Sunday

Not reading a great deal into it long term because I know Maguire and Wane pick players on merits but short term I think they really like what they see in Marsh. It may be his attitude in training or his preformences for the u20's but they obviously like what they see. I went to a sportsmans dinner at Haigh Hall last year with Magurie and Wane and they mentioned Steffan Marsh's name a few times when questioned about which players they had high hopes for. They raved about how good this lad was and with backing like that from those 2 blokes i'm sure he's got something special about him.
As for Charnley i'm sure they rate him highly aswell or else they wouldn't have let Pryce go out on loan to Quins and he'll get his chances aswell. They are both very exciting players indeed but I would say Charnley has looked more comfortable at this level so far imo.

Luke Burgess said in the League Weekly he wants to join Sam and George at Souths in 2012 so that will be 3. The other brother turned down a move for this season but long term you'd think he'll do a stint down under aswell if he's good enough.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

| Not that anyone needed reminding but what a player Sam is.... this video shows just how influential he was last year, he won games for us and ripped teams appart especially Hull KR!
*Sadly it is RLFans.com owners policy that we can't allow links to videos with copyrighted material. Secondly that video was total GBH of the Earholes anyway! Awful music! - Bilko.

My Dad agrees it was possible with the Blan family. Billy being the best.

As I said on the VT: not seen anything from him to excite me. Gets the ball and it's head down, charge in. Never passes and on at least a few occasions last year was badly out of position in defence or missed tackles to concede tries. I'm sure he'll do well somewhere but I can't see it being at Wigan unless on the wing.
I appreciate he's young but there are better players at his age (Charnley being one) and I just don't see anything special in him at the moment. Of course Madge & co. see him day in, day out and are far better judges than I, but still...Wigan have high standards right now and I don't see him reaching them.
