The one where Halifax Reserves were playing Saints as a curtain raiser and there were 1000+ Wiganers there well early all cheering 'Hali-Hali-Hali-Hali-Halifax'. They all came over and applauded us at the end. Funny as.
I'll also never forget being one of the very first people in the queue at the turnstyles one Boxing Day and when a turnstyle opened we thought they were going to let us in. Instead a steward came out and changed the price from £10 to £11!?!

Challenge cup quarter final 1984, mud heap of a pitch, Wigan (wearing Saints away strip) losing 7-4, John Pendlebury gets on the end of a passing move and crosses out wide, the place erupted and we went on to win easily, fantastic day and even better night out in Wigan after !!!!!!!

That one was a defining moment - paved the way to 1st Wembley in 14 years, but my fave was 82 just up from the 2nd division and we won a Challenge Cup tie at Knowsley Road on national tv - which had the town talking about us for the 1st time in years. We lost narrowly to cup kings Widnes in the next round in front of a massive crowd signalling we were back in the big time. |
