Quote: Donna "So he tells to knock on, tackle high and stand off side?

If we had kept a bit more ball, you never know...............'"

Donna he makes them move forard a yard or so then hold in defence. trent tried to tell him last season and got screamed at for daring to suggest something contrary to Mr Noble's wished. He is a control freak.

The crazy flat line where player do not run onto the ball, the lack of set plays are all as deemed by Noble.

I agree there are issues with his tactics, but come on Charlie, my kids have better ball possession and more pride than was on display today.

No but his tactics dont help I don't blame the players or at least not all .
How much harder can players like Hock, Fekka, Tomkins, Lockers, Lulu, O'carol run the ball? how much harder can they tackle? I think they tried today but it's the same old one out tactically naive rugby!! every time a player is going to drive the ball in you can spot it from the stand ,guess what? so can the defenders no matter how hard they run if three or four defenders are waiting the impact will result in the very very occasional bust, the more likely dominant tackle with a slow play the ball or worse a knock on or lost possession .
Now we here Nobby slate the players he should be looking closer to home and asking what he can do .
Mathers should be dropped I kept my mouth shut last year ''give the lad a chance'' NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!!!''
Fielden is a marked man and what an easy job it is you can spot him coming and line the defence up and ''bang'' the prop who should lead us is smacked , Fekka can drive it in and make impact but hitting a line ready for you soon gets him puffing . Hock ran the ball as hard today as any Wigan forward I have ever seen , we rely on him breaking a gang tackle or providing a miracle off load result he makes a mistake .
Now for one minute think of any of these players in a Saints team ,running at a broken line or a defence which does not know who will get the ball ,imagine Fekka running onto a set move(A set move!! remember those!!) with one defender in his way god I'm dreaming .
When the better teams god help us ,just a dummy runner a move from a scrum ........anything that would give me a glimmer of hope . It is not just the players if it was we have a good squad this year ,will Nobby drop his chums ? not a chance .
You may think this is a early moan but I sat through some bad performances last year, I hoped for the smallest glimpse of an improvement but today was worse than ever .
Nobby won with a brand of rugby that has lost it's shelf life ,we may win some good games we have the players, our brand of rugby is poor and I Just can not see how or why it will improve Embarassed icon_rolleyes.gif

You have a point but IMO if you look at the way Wigan are organised it is like a schoolboy team. Everybody stands still, 1 player gets it and tries to beat the whole team on his own. Now that is okay for schoolboys.

Doing that v professional RL players is a recipe for disaster and results in dropped balls etc etc.

You have to remember that all these players are full time rugby league players who earn good money every week. And to only have a 40% completion rate is terrible.

Utter shambles, makes you wonder what the guys were doing in Lanzarote and in training at Orrell

I was quite impressed with Noble's enthusiasm at the recent forum, its a pity he can't instill this into the players.

I still think we need an aggressive prop

All in not lost its only the first game, bring on Hull

I would agree with that.

Explains why even though most of our forwards had good games we did little during the game. It is like running into a brick wall.

But Nobby is a full time coach and his tactics are poor. He is also the man who ought to whip these full time players into shape so they don't have such poor completion rates.

I get the impression he says "do this, do that" and then sends them onto the pitch and then he watches the game as a mildly interested observer. If we are rubbish he says why but I have not seen much evidence of him doing anything about it. He seems about as powerful as you or I to change things for the better but the difference between us and him is that it is his job to do so.

I am pretty sure Feka was announced over the Tannoy as MoM (which was a joke) but O'Carroll and to a lesser extent J Tomkins were some positives to take away from the game.

People are going to lol but our forwards often work harder than their oppoents. Feka was head and shoulders above anybody else at times in that game for both sides. However, the way we play is so unproductive it is hopeless. We do not go through a set to engineer an opening. It is just 1 v 13 tackle after tackle. Pro teams can deal with that with one hand tied behind their back.

Our prop often take tackls 1 and 2 religiously in every set. Not hard for opposition tams to know this and just blitz them.
