tomkins is in his first real season at wigan. And to be honest it hasn't been a full season and he only came into the side due to smiths injury. You cant compare, Its like trying to compare a rookie heavyweight to mohammed Ali. Tomkins will be a star, no doubt, buts its a different era of full time professionals playing through a different climate. a comparison is difficult, they will both be wigan legends !!!!!!

Simply Sam now, Edwards then. Like for like who can compare Edwards was a brilliant player in a brilliant team, Sam is just starting off in a average team.

The only comparison that matters is Sam Tomkins compared to Tim Smith. Sam is the better of those two and therefore improves the team from what it was when he came into the team.

Some people (particularly the media) will always look to compare a young player to someone who played their position with distinction in the past. Let them do it but don't let it bother you. I doubt it will bother Sam.
