Unfortunately Richie will never lose his "dodgy" tag from us - some justified some not - and where as I wish him all the best, I think both clubs got a good deal for what THEY wanted.

Wigan wanted Gleeson
=
Wire wanted excessive cash
=
Wigan offered Mathers who if were being honest never settled in the club
=
Wire get rid of Gleeson who is seen as a 'bad egg' and not wanting to be there
=
Fresh start for both clubs and both players.

Wigan would have released Mathers sooner rather than later IMO.

Good deal for Wigan. Mathers was not happy here. He would have gone anyway. Gleeson improves our team. End of.

Yet was one of the VERY few players to return from last year's world cup debacle with any sort of credibility...

There's no point in comparing both players.

They play different positions and neither apparently excelled at their previous club.

Both clubs have apparently benefited from their new signings. End of.

In my opinion Mathers had the Wigan fans on his back from his first game he was never given a long enough chance to prove himself he is a confidence player and was never given the chance to build that confidence either by the fans or the club going back to a coach he knows well and fitting back into his style of play has done him a world of good.

Gleeson on the other hand never wanted to go to Warrington it was only the Saints i will never deal with the Wigan club again attitude that stopped him coming here from Saints. I am sure he did his best for Warrington but when deep down you dont want to be there and knowing your home town club wanted you it must be hard. Since coming to Wigan he looks happy and has defiantly lifted the club we still play a one sided game as we are not used to having a good on that side yet but it will come and i am sure he will be a very big asset later in the year for us.

THis may seem a little strange, but; do your half bacls ahave a strong left-to-right passing game?

Gleeson was given space by Briers, in no small part down to his ability to pass to his right.

Not sure if they can pass well from left to right but they don't do it much.

We used that left hand side of Leuluai, Hock, Carmont and Richards/Ainscough far more then the other side.

I feel abit sorry for Gleeson in attack tbh. He is a player that just looks like he loves to have the ball in his hands and he must get about 4 touches a game here at Wigan.

He's playing pretty well in all fairness to him but more from a defensive point of view because in attack he may aswell not bother coming on the pitch.

Having Bailey on his inside doesn't do him many favours.

Well I thought so, but Gleeson hasn't touched the ball any where near as much I would of liked/expected him to. I've noticed him coming further in field to look for work too. Still, he's reletively new to the squad and it'll take time to gel.

Overall, the improvement on that side has been 100%.

Quote: DannyRic "...how Warrington supporters are trying to argue that Mathers is better than Gleeson! He's had 2 average games and a shaky one for Wire and they think he's Gods gift from heaven.'"

Thats only 3 games..he's actually played 4. I would say he's had 1 excellent game 1 good game and 2 average games but thats only my opinion and I quite respect yours.

One thing that is fact is that Warrington have won all four games in which he has played which can only be a positive.

I didn't really take too much notice of Mathers at Wigan as unlike some I'm much more interested in my own team's players than slagging off the opposition's.

One thing I would say is I've seen more passion commitment and hunger from Mathers in a month than I saw from Gleeson in 3 years!

That's unfair.
Gleeson for me did everything we asked and more.
I think youre forgetting how much of a decent player he made a donkey like fa'afili look, Riley score 15 tries in half a season last year and Hicks about the same with what little time he had on the wing.
