| Quote: Bilko "Felt it was harsh on Desi that day at Cas he was up against a really tall winger 0 Mellor I think his name was. But he never recovered from that - even though he'd been an international at academy level.
His other game was a 64-8 thrashing of London at the JJB? Not sure how he could have had a bad game in that kind of win?
Was the week before the final at Cardiff wasn't it? Seem to remember praying we wouldn't pick him.

The only times he stood out for me was when he side stepped the Leeds defence and passed the ball for Chris Ashton to score against them in 2006 (on that try of the season video.) And that Saints game in 2007 on the last game of the regular season was his best he ever had.

True. Well overrated by the Leeds fans, as they do with all their players.

| How about Doc Murray in his first match?
That was the first time in years when I actually thought: "Crikey, we've bought a lemon!"
He probably played a few more matches that season, but he lost the crowd on that very first appearance, when he seemed to think that playing at Wigan's pace was too much trouble.

Whoever suggested the game that ended mathers' career was the wakey one?! The game that should have ended his career was millenium magic last year...yet we had a spineless coach who continued to let him off and forget his failings!!
At least it only took the wigan coach in 1997 6 games to realise murry was woeful....its taken the current one 'a season and a half not out' with mathers!
Though it is official...mathers is better than murry.......as that link proves murry never scored for wigan...mathers has ONE try so must be better

What a distinguished career eh?!?! Who ever signed him at wigan should never be employed again!!
Really dark times for the club then...murry,koloi, lester, Lee hansen etc!! at least now we only have the odd one or two to worry about!!
Mathers must be so pleased for that signing 12 years ago though....but for offering doc murray a trial mathers would have the distinction of Wigan RLFCs Worst Ever Full Back!

Played 3 games as sub. Under the name David Murray
25/8/1997 to 5/09/1997
We had Mathers for a season as a youngster & he was excellent.

yer it was mate,
He was given his chance in the first team at Wigan Warriors in 2004. After a decent first game he was criticised for his bad performance a week later against Castleford Tigers in which he dropped numerous high ball's in dangerous territory and was subsequently dropped the week later.'"

Wasn't Monie!
I had a LONG Chat with Monie when He came back to Wigan in 1998 and the main Crux of the conversation was that we must NEVER sign a player as bad as that again!
I think if we cou;ld get to the Bottom of the facts You will find it wasnt Hughes either, I think a certain J Robinson may be to blame for that one!

Moran played Full back against us in the 75-0 game and had an absolute nightmare. I have never seen a guy look so fed up walking back to the kick off from behind the posts after some of the stick he was getting from a group of Saints Lads.
