| Quote: Alex BP' "Well, we're paying him a fortune and aren't getting good enough performances in return so let's hope it is true. However, at his age and considering the amount of money he's earning, though he might be unhappy I doubt he'll want to leave.'"
I'm not sure what the lad expects. We bought the best forward in the world, offered him absolutely top-drawer wages, and in return got, at best, extremely average performances for the last two seasons. Not only that, because of his wages we weren't able to spend money elsewhere.
It isn't as if people were willing him to fail. For the first half of his time at Wigan, the home crowd were making excuses for him. They wanted him to succeed.
Things like this exasperate me with modern players. None of them seem capable of accepting that they're usually the architects of their own misfortunes. They get stick for poor performances, and instead of trying to buck their ideas up, immediately go whining to the press or to their mates who they know will post it online.
What happened to knuckling down and taking it on the chin (and accepting that, for the money they're on and the minimal amount of actual work they're required to do each day, they're incredibly lucky)?

Good post. Sums up Fielden's career at Wigan.
Maybe it's now time, and maybe it's for the best for both parties if Fielden can neg a move elsewhere.
I hate to say it, but think of the excitement around the club if he left, we'd all be thinking about who we might bring in. We'd all probably be just as excited as we all were when he originally signed for us.

| Well quick comment on the post from Cruncher
Fielden is not a mate of mine but the comment did come from another Wigan player.
Spoken to my mate from the club and i Quote him word for word ( I cannot comment on that one )
so now you know as much as i do. Reading between the lines of what was said i get the impression that he wants to play back over in Yorkshire he has not looked happy for a while now has he.

| I am not for one second going to say Fielden is playing anywhere near the level he should be but i do feel the last few games he has been finding his front much more and generating a quicker PTB, a good few of our breaks vs Celtic came off the back of a quick PTB from Fielden same at Trinity where he picked us up a few penalties and half breaks off the back of them, it is at least one aspect of his play that the coaching staff seem to have identified as an issue rather than letting him continue to fight in the tackle and ensuring by the time he does play the ball the defensive line is set.

Well i would like to see him stay and play for us like he did for Bradford.
But if the lad is not happy here for whatever reason then it might be in the best interests of the club to let him go there is nothing worse than one despondent employee dragging everyone down.
Then the question is do we want to just release him or do we want a fee for him and who would we get in his place?

To be honest, I think we'd be lucky to get anyone who'd be prepared to take so large a contract on. Asking for a transfer fee as well would make it unthinkable (though a swap may be a possibility).
If he wants to go, and someone in Yorkshire is prepared to take him, wages and all, then I'd put as few hindrances in the way as possible.

If rumours are to be believed then Lynch will leave Bradford at the end of the season so lets hurry it up and swap him with Fielden.
We'll even pay the difference in wages for 18 months.

I am not suggesting it is grounds for him to stay, it is just a marked improvement in him of late. Will be interesting to see if he can do the same against Saints.
If we attempted to get a fee for him he will be here next year regardless, nobody would pay good money for him, i also doubt given he has 1 year left on a massive deal he would happily walk away to what would be a massive potential loss of earnings for him, so unless we are willing to pay some of his wages even though he is at another club, or give him a major pay off which eats into our cap he will be a Warrior for 2010.

| Stu’s mega wages mean either way we’ll be getting rid of him or severely reducing his contract when it runs out I think that’s the one thing we can be defiantly sure of.
Fielden would be mad to leave early as he must know he’ll never get the money he’s currently on again. It’s a relatively short career RL players have and they have to maximise the earnings whilst they can. Sadly that’s not good for us tho as we have to honour contracts no matter how bad they are playing.
Stu knows this and lets face it Fielden’s career is over in terms of international honours and I really doubt any top team challenging for honours will take him when his contract runs out either so the best option from his pov is to stay under the comfort of Noble and keep earning the mega bucks.
At least we'll be in a perfect position to take Astotasi when Stu leaves.
