| I'm happy for Wane to be given the chance. Actually i'm starting to get excited about the prospect..I just remember the last time a passionate wiganer took over.I'm not saying he'll have the same effect but passion seems lost sometimes with this team..and if Wane is in control the players will show passion are they will be knocked across the dressing room and in the reserves the week after.
We need more than just passion but IMO this side with 1-2 added have what in takes to win.

| Just when Brian Noble has made some progress with your club, you want to ditch him. You lot remind me of Newcastle United!

how has he made progress exactly?
EDIT: how has he JUST made progress, he's brought us a long way from when he took over. But from what i remember we finished higher up the league last year, maybe the year before as well.

Do you mean from when he took over or the beggining of the season?
If you mean from when he took over then yes he definatly has but I don't think he is the man to take us much further.
If you mean from the beggining of the season then your wrong. We always start slow and pick up at the end of the season.

Agree if he does as well as Mike Gregory then happy days are not far away....

| Quote: jinkin jimmy "Not amazing. Unbelieveable would be more like it. We must have had real good quality coaches knocking IL's door down, surely? Have we actually become that unattractive a proposition? Could it be that IL is not willing to pay the going rate for a coach in the same way that he appears to under value prop forwards?'"
It does seem to be that way doesnt it. I hope he can succeed using this strategy, but he only will, if not winning trophies is his goal. You cant run a club on a shoestring.
Quote: jinkin jimmy "Melbourne assistant Michael Maguire had been strongly linked with the job but, according to sources at the Storm, he has not heard from Wigan boss Ian Lenagan for some time. Parramatta under-20s coach David Fairleigh and Roosters defensive coach Adrian Lam were other names mentioned. But it now appears the former glamour club is set to promote from within, with The Guardian reporting that Wane - Wigan's academy coach and a former player - is emerging as the surprise favourite.'"
Which suggests he has been spoken to, but why has he not been approached/offered the job, when on the face of it, he would seem the best candidate from that list. I am stunned there is no higher profile people on the list however.

IL goes to Oz to sign a prop and a half back, signs neither and then decrees the home grown player route is the way to go.
He then looks to sign an NRL coach or assistant coach, fails and then decrees the home grown route for a coach is the way to go.
Is that too cynical a view?
I am sure some will think the home grown player route plus home grown coach will be great but I am sure a lot of fans who aren't as obsessed as the people who use this message board will just think "no star players, no star coach".
If we had one or the other (one or two star players coming in or star coach) I think people would be optimistic but going with the same squad and Wane as coach is a huge gamble.

Its a view you will get slated for, but is one that is based in fact.

It is, but it is also a cheaper way of doing things..

| We are putting the wiganner aspect in at every level of the club.
Owner is a wiganer, the coach will be a wiganer and players will be mainly through the ranks. There will be no shortage of passion.

| IMHO, if ( ) Noble leaves, then, to take us to the next level, the replacement needs to be a top line coach with real credentials, recent experience in the top flight and (unfortunately) up to date experience.
A Bennet, Smith, Gould, Anderson (although I don't think anyone with a Saints link should be allowed near the coaching set up (ever!)) would fit this bill. Wane should be then groomed to take over, not simply moved up to fill a gap, the last time that happened we had Betts in charge who simply wasn't ready for the job in hand.
To go from Noble to Wane in this manner is a chronic statement of lack of ambition imho, especially as it appears that it is a case of settling for Wane. Maybe nobody outside Wigan is prepared to take the poison chalice that is Wigan RL

'Wiganer' is good, but IMHO best man for the job should be the order of the day, not best Wiganer for the job.

Same squad, inexperienced coach = ??
Cheaper yes, better financially? Not necessarily. Results could be interesting, fence sitters may not bother with the season tickets if failure looks probable?

Fully agree, although I have no problem with Wane as a number 2 to a top coach for a year or two. Mike Greg had to learn his trade after all as did Nobby.
