Cas/Leeds would/will rain bombs down on Marshall, thoughbut.

But yeah, he was terrific today. I said a while back that he was the player in our squad most likely to have me on the edge of my seat, and he produced here. The try assist where he kept his foot in the field of play by a fraction was superb.

They would but then they would with Tom Davies as well and in truth I’ve seen little to suggest he’s much better at grabbing them in traffic. I’ve been impressed with Burgess recently in regards to defending high kicks. It’s something he should be good at given his height and he does look to be improving and seems to have worked out a way of catching them high above his head. It’s a bit Aussie Rules style and similar to how Richards used to take them.

What's unbelievable is a coach getting criticised for a comment about his style of play when his team are top try scorers in Superleague?

I can’t speak on behalf of others but for me it’s not a personal attack on Wane or his style of play. As I said earlier, I like Wane and our style of play this year has been very good, not disputing that.

But surely if you were at the game yesterday you acknowledge what Hamlin brought us. He made a stupid amount of metres and gained about four penalties because of his leg drive - penalties that led to try scoring positions. Wane always asks for noise from the crowd, every time Hamlin took it in that’s what he got. If you take that out of his game and he does the FPN style touch then drop, we lose one of his biggest attributes.

Quite simply, does Hamlin deserve another game against a better team? I would say yes. I would also suggest that making contact and dropping does not always get a quicker ptb, especially if the ref calls surrender. It also allows defenders to put fewer men in the tackle which will leave a stronger defensive line. I am not saying that it is a bad tactic but it should not be the only one.

But would he be able to do that against the better sets of opposition props that we’re going to be up against in the next few games? The HKR pack was pretty poor.

Our style of play hasn’t been good at all this season, especially against the “bigger” teams such as Warrington/Saints. It was clear the game plan on Friday was to bash them up for 15mins or so and see what we can do after that. Saints sucked it up and out played us, IMHO we were kept in it through good defence.

What’s more disappointing was that our props were anonymous on Friday. Seriously I don’t think we’d have noticed if they didn’t play at all. So to hear that Hamlin had a barnstormer for a debut is very refreshinf and encouraging. It sounds like he does what a prop should do - run it in as hard as you can every single time and make yards for the backs to play off. Then for SW to criticise him on Radio Manchester? Unbelievable. We’ve struggled making yards at all this season with our forwards and now we are suddenly it’s wrong?

I lost patience with SW a while ago, I’m always game for throwing a second chance in there but for me he needs to be moved on.

I don’t know. But it was his debut so he could only play what was in front of him, hopefully we will find out.

The style of play has been very good but that comment about Hamlin is just weird. His running game yesterday added more excitement to our style of play and not the other way round.

I just can’t sit and agree with him that he thinks players should be trying to find the floor rather then driving their legs in contact. That to me is simply ridiculous! If the opposition know you’ll do that they’ll just thrown men in to the tackles and slow you down. In comparison it was taking 3 or 4 defenders to bring Hamlin to ground, which created loads of space and he also won 4 penalties due to his running game. They could be absolutely crucial in big games for us when we’re trying to get out of our half.

I back Wane to the hilt most of the time but I’ve long criticised the tactics of our props and our on the minute rotation. He’s confirmed a few fears with those comments imo.

Does nobody else just think waney was playing it down a bit and not getting carried away???? Nobody in there right mind wouldnt want players to make more yards??? I might be wrong but lets be honest it wouldnt be the first time comments of this nature have come out, he once said matty smith was not going to saints when we knew all that he had signed a deal. Some people just look for negatives, them same people where probabl whinging after 20 minutes yesterday saying our attack’s not good enough ect... when in fact the first 20 destroyed hull kr’s fitness and patterns. Lets be positive, we have at least 25 genuine super league players available for this week. Saints played 16 out of fridays 17 yesterday, that tells me they have not got much behind there 17. I wouldnt swap our squad for anyones.

Jonny I agree with the majority of your post particularly about the Saints squad. I would have liked Woods to have got more of the ball and take the line on a bit more but Im sure that will come with more experience and growing confidence.
I must admit I played the Radio Manchester interview a couple of times and SW seemed to be saying that he didn't want Hamlin to be playing like he did yesterday which if correct is particularly disappointing. I wish Clubb & TT could play like Hamlin. Hopefully you are right and SW was just trying to play down Hamlin's debut to keep his feet on the floor.
A reasonable start to the season and the next 4 games I think will tell us more about our potential to be in the hunt for trophies.

Watched the game again on Wigan TV. All four prop forwards showed great 'leg drive' at times during the match.

I also noticed some other comments from Wane saying he was pleased that all the forwards 'ran hard'.

Really find it a head scratcher. Must be a terminology thing. If you dont run with good leg drive the odds are you'll get pushed back rather than hit the floor. If you do then not only do you make more metres but surely you have a better chance of hitting the floor on the front foot.

Feel like Im typing a book of rugby league for dummies but obviously Shaun Wane has far more RL knowledge than me. Just difficult to get your head round.

On a side note I thought Ganson played very well for us - looks a talented and smart hooker.

In the Post tonight Wane's praising him again, his only complaint is about him going down winded with no-one near him.

Agree on Ganson, need to get him a lot of game time this year. Can establish starting 17 spot for next year IMO.

For me the bottom 5 sides are really struggling to compete with the top 4.

Salford, Catalans, KR, Widnes and Huddersfield are games we should be blooding, Ganson, Woods, Field etc

Ganson for me is a superb player and ought to be playing in most of, if not every game.
