| Quote: Salty "Just what I was thinking.
Of course Noble has assembled a decent team at Crusaders. Most of the previous players at Bridgend had come up from Championship One and couldn't cope in Super League. This enabled Noble to sign many very good Aussies. They are still only ninth in the table despite this pedigree. They have lacked consistency, a characteristic of Wigan last season.
I think Maguire is nailed on with Smith a long long way behind. Depends on Wembley and the Grand Final for the runner up.'"
I think the overall award may depend on this.
If Leeds go on to win the Grand Final, you'd have to make McLennan a very serious contender given that Leeds have been average by their own standards for most of the season, and would have to have shown a remarkable turn-around between then and now. It's a similar story with Smith and Potter. Both of those coaches (and McLennan too) could conceivably still win both major awards. If they manage that, Maguire's week-by-week achievements would (probably rightly) be overlooked. Even if the two major awards were shared - say Saints in the CC, Wire in the GF - it would still look a bit odd if Maguire won it ahead of both the main trophy-winners.
In retrospect, it's clearly a bit previous for us to speculate on this at present.

| Quote: Cruncher "I'm not sure that being better than Millward qualfies you as Coach of the Year. I also have questions in my mind about Noble being responsible for our youth system. If he was, he certainly didn't make use of it. One of our problems while he was a coach was that older players always seemed to get picked first, which irritated the young ones and made the rest confident of selection whatever their form.
If Noble wins it this year, he will obviously be being judged on 2010 rather than his time at Wigan. But it would hardly be natural justice, given that the team he struggled to get a decent performance out of has hardly given a poor performance since he left.'"
Dear oh dear. Firstly, I didn't say that being better than Millward does indeed quality you. With twists like that, you should be a barrister.
Secondly, coach of the [size YEAR[/size means that he should indeed be judged on 2010, not the past.

| Quote: Cruncher "Why?
One of the two is clearly a much, much better coach than the other one. How can that fact be unrelated to an award like this?
FWIW, I'm not having a pop at you personally for this, but I'm sure this issue will come up - and, if so, it will flabbergast and infuriate me.'"
Its called coach of the year and its based on what the coach has done with the resources they have not simply who is the most talented
Although saying that he has improved us immensely going from a 6th place to 1st and from having 30pts last year to 40 with three games left

| lets think, in a nutshell....
(K)Noble > poor team to mediocrity
Maguire > mediocrity (achieved by above coach) to league leaders
which is greater achievement?

| Shauan Wane might win it. 100% record in 2010. No other coach can claim that

To be fair (and I still think Madge should be a shoe in), they weren't just a poor team, they were the worst in the league by a long, long way.

| Quote: Cruncher "Really?
Does it not put things a little into perspective that the team who've basically won the league in July is almost exactly the same team that Brian Noble struggled to get into the play-offs last year?
Frankly, I'm amazed that Noble isn't hugely embarrassed every time the subject of Wigan comes up.
If he gets coach of the year ahead of Maguire it will be proof positive that not only do we never learn anything in the British game, but that we don't actually want to learn anything. The Aussies will be laughing their stones off at us again, and no wonder.'"
^ This.

He is a real deep thinker with the way he approaches the game, to the smallest detail, and has brought a new level of professionalism with him.'"

| Quote: Andy Greg "I think it will be a close call between Nobby and Madge. Lets not forget Noble came to Wigan and put all the building blocks into place Madge came in and just put the finishing touches to it. Noble went To Crusaders and cobbled together a team from nothing he has the got that team which were expected to be bottom again by a long way to within touching distance of the playoffs. He is doing at Crusaders what he did at Wigan building strong foundations for the club to kick on from.
Lets not forget the good work Noble did here at Wigan if it was not for him we would not have the training facility we have. And Do you honestly think if Madge had come to the club when Noble did he could have achieved so much in his first year?'"
Exactly my thoughts, people make out as though noble was awful, he got us to three semis in 2 years and the last one of those against saints we should have won really and then got to the grand final etc.
Maguire has come in and goen on from where Noble left off which was a pretty stable club with some fantastic young players, he's doing the same with crusaders which really is an even harder job, i still think he's an absolutely fantastic coach.
