Officiating one's home town team ( or where one lives in Bentham's case) is a thorny issue and Cummins bears responsibility for this. Maybe the above refs should not be placed in this predicament in the first place - there are enough refs on the panel to avoid this controversial situation.
'"
Actually this is down to the wingeing Australians not wanting a NZ ref for the GB V Aus game. And once the softies that run the international game allowed this it was always on the cards that home town refs would be allowed to ref there home town side.

| John Holdsworth said he came from Kippax which allowed him to referee Leeds games. Would be the equivalent of a Wigan ref saying they're from Hindley under the old rules and being able to referee us. As much as I can't see the need for referees being used in matches involving their hometown clubs I don't think there's much evidence of bias in this situation tbh. As for the comments about Bentham, having been at each of the games he's reffed this year except quins, which I've got on DVD, I can't really see how he can be blamed to be honest. Blaming the ref is a cop out in most instances imo.

| Send the physio on with an air horn as the hooter blows, just to make sure he hears it.

| I'm stunned Cummings passed on the opportunity to give Bentham this game.

Saving him for the playoffs, no doubt.

| Just hope that Silverwood is strong enough to deal with any bad tackles/assaults. I've got a sick feeling that some of our smaller stars ( Sam/Tommy) and maybe even some of our bigger key players (Lockers/Pat)will be targetted by Morley & co.
Anyone seen the picture on the official club site today - a nice picture of Morley doing a grapple tackle on Mossop. Maybe a subtle (or not so subtle!) reminder of what to expect.

I know that Hansen has been quoted (perhaps tounge in cheek) that he owes Mozza for that one. I am really looking forward to seeing how that one plays out.
Morley is a beast, but Hansen is capable of some monster shots.....
I cannot wait for tonight!!!!!!!

Dont worry about Lockers or Pat they as tough b*astards and can take big hits. Sam and Tommy may get their heads taken off though!
I just hope we are talking about rugby rather than referees after the game.

There, how's that ?'"

Seems I was right! How many late challenges were there by Warrington, particularly in the 1st 20 minutes? Silverwood penalised a couple of blatant ones but missed several others, particularly by Morley after kicks.
When are Wigan going to get the rub of the green/benefit of the doubt in the big games? Yet again a crucial mistake by the video ref in not awarding an attacking scrum when Mathers knocked on. Should have been a Wigan scrum 10 metres out. Similar to the Smith knock on in the Cup Q/F - not even a 50/50 call. 100% obvious!! Even Eddie and Stevo agreed it was a Mathers knock on!
Yes, Gleeson was offside when penalised at the scrum, but Warrington were equally offside almost every scrum. And how did neither Silverwood nor the touch judge spot the forward pass to Hicks - must have been nearly 2 yards forward. Ironically, he gave the forward pass to disallow the Hicks try - which was forward, but only by a foot or so!
Some people think it isnt the ref who costs a side the game, but blatant mistakes, particularly those from the video ref that are inexcusable, certainly contribute to a defeat. I'm just hoping Wigan get the benefit of some of these mistakes in the Play Offs!

| difficult one this , how do you criticise the refereeing decisons you have just witnessed without it sounding like sour grapes ?
wire had a game plan . target SF , they got rid of him , target the kicker/1st /2nd reciever , job done
so many late and cheap shots went unpinished , JT does it and we get pulled almost immedieatley
i depair at the standard of refereeing and video refs too
as allready mentioned , when will we get the rub of the green in a big game ?
wire stil deserved to win though

| Referee had no control and let a lot go, so many high shots and late tackles it was unreal. But ultimately he didn't make us drop the ball or bomb chances. But to lose by a mere try when playing with only 2 props can't complain too much.

The cheapest shot of all was the one by Joel Tomkins when Myler scored, nothing like a late elbow in the face when you're on the floor.
