The Communist Cap - dragging down success and aspiration to the levels of those who cba.: |
|
| Quote: Cruncher "I honestly can't believe that you think finishing mid-table is okay for a club like Wigan, or indeed any club with aspirations to field a great side and entertain big crowds.
However, if what you say is true, then this clearly explains why Noble has been given his marching orders. If any coach went to his chairman, and made a presentation of this sort, he would definitely be collecting his pink slip before the end of the season.'"
I don't. That's my point. The season isn't "finished" yet and the worse we can do is joint 3rd.
The league positions are very much second best when compared to form at this point of the season.

I will name a few he has dropped off the top of my head.
Andy Coley
Amos Roberts

I am also sure there was a spell when Mark Riddell was playing in the reserves at one point.
I can only assume that Wigan fans will not be happy until they get a coach who has dropped the entire team into the resrves at one point or another throughout the season.'"
Will have to bow to your knowledge on the dropping of Coley and Roberts has your right about that he did drop them, however not seen much dropping of Fielden or Feka, so its swings and round a bouts.
I have no problem with Nobby think he done a great job and wouldnt mind keeping him on. If he does stay on think ill save my money on a season ticket though and just pick the end of season games, and maybe against leeds.

If you want to assume that based on the opinion of one poster on here then feel free. However, I for one have never wanted such a thing. What I have wanted was a team that didn't consistently lose half of its matches season after season and Noble has failed to deliver that.

And just to clarify, i dont think we should just drop players and get the kids in. Perhaps my wording could have been better, but the same people are making the same mistakes each and every week.
If i made the same mistakes at work every week, i wouldnt get the repeat work, id be making the tea, if i still had a job that is.

He wont be staying so dont worry about that. What i cant get my head around though is why fans want to keep making things up such as 'he wont drop anyone' when the fact is he will drop players. Another fantasy dreamt up by Wigan fans is he wont play young players or he will only play Aussies.
As far as dropping Fielden and Feka goes he obviously has reasons. Fielden ill agree has been poor going forward for a big chunk of the season but maybe Noble could see that he was still offering us something with his defence? I dont know why you would want to drop Feka because other than the game against Warrington in the CC semi final he hasnt done alot wrong.
In reality no matter who the coach is it will not alter the fact that the end of season and play off games are the more exciting than a fairly meaningless game in April when all that is at stake is 2 points in a league where there is no massive advantage finishing in 3rd over 6th. Its just the way the competition works and no matter who the coach is wont alter that fact.

This post perfectly illustrates the "you're totally wrong and we're totally right" attitude that is characterising the Nobby debate.
Apparently it's 'absolute dross' to voice concerns about the way Nobby has coached Wigan, despite our generally poor-to-average performances, and a completely daft example (re. dropping the entire team) - which in no way relates to anything any poster has said thus far, to my knowledge - is offered as proof.
Can't you just accept that some fans have an issue with the way we so regularly underperform? Is it so wrong to want to see someone with new ideas brought in? Is it unrealistic to want to see our team start getting the basics right? It is 'thick and stubborn' - as someone said the other day - to be disappointed that yet another poor pre-season has seen us having to challenge for silverware from way down the league? Why should we be unquestioningly loyal to a coach who, after three years in charge, has stabilized us at mid-table?
I've yet to hear a single coherent argument as to why it's wrong for Wigan fans to want to see improvements in these areas.
I used to get irritated with Charlie Seeling when he made scathing comments about "this and that aren't good enough for Wigan" etc, because I thought he was being pompous and arrogant. I still think that, but flipping heck ... it's surely neither pompous nor arrogant to want to improve a little on what you've currently got.

We have not lost half of our games this year. Weve won more than weve lost by 15/12 so that is another fantasy dreamt up by Wigan fans.

Thats quite a dummy spit Cruncher.
The OP stated Noble did not drop players. I gave him examples of players he has dropped.
Do you honestly believe that he does not drop players even though i have given you facts to prove he does drop players?
And yes, of course it is 'dross' to come on stating things which are not true. I cant see why you are trying to argue about it. I have no problem with you or anyone else finding fault with Noble but at least speak the truth rather than making fantasys up.

And i agreed and recanted my statement, as a total fact, what i should have said was he wont drop certain players regardless of performance. Fielden being my key point. However im neither pro or anti noble, could get chuck norris in for all i care as long as he gets the team ready to start the season.

Yes i know and fair play to you. I wasnt having a go at you i was replying to Cruncher but used your comment as an example of why i am defending Noble.

44841.jpg There is a place in wigan, right next to Robin Park, where legends such as Farrell, and Radlinski made their mark. the boardroom's full of trophy's, its time we won some more, All the other teams know what we mean when they hear the Wigan roar.....:44841.jpg |

| Noble has dropped players, perhaps not the ones folk on here thought he should have dropped but he's dropped plenty.
He dropped four full backs in the first ten games. Mathers, Richards, Roberts & Phelps. They were all poor and got dropped/switched positions until he finally settled on Phelps.
Sam got dropped after a non descript game and so did Tim Smith after a less than non descript game.
He can't drop any props because we need four and that's all he's got after Eamon was injured.
He also has played younger players usually following injury to a current first teamer but they are brought at Wigan in the same manner as at other clubs.
This team up to now has been a semi finals team. Should we win on Saturday that will be fantastic and getting to OT from 6th would be excellent.
The only way to improve this squad massively from one season to the next is by quality signings. We've needed them, Noble has identified who he has wanted to bring in to make that improvement, they haven't however been signed.
Until those signings are made we will not make the massive improvement we all want. This of course is down to IL. Whether he reckons this or that player are worth the money they want and if they represent value for money. Also if there's money available from the club's resources and if there is whether we can spend it and stay under the salary cap.
The idea that our lack of improvement is soley down to Noble is wrong IMO. There are a number of factors and IL speaks about them at the Fans Forums. I've mentioned a couple above.
I'd be happy for Noble to stay but he's off.
Won't the media have a lot to say if we win the GF and Noble departs.

There you go again!! i do not speak for all Wigan fans!!!!
FWIW I CBA checking but knew it was around 50/50 AS IT HAS BEEN THROUGHOUT HIS TENURE. If 12 losses - and finishing 6th in the table APPROXIMATELY 10-12 points behind the league winners - is acceptable to you that's OK but it isn't good enough for me.

Another example.
I try to put my side of the argument in non-confrontatinal fashion, and it's a 'dummy-spit'. Mind you, I suppose it's easier to respond with stuff like that than to actually address the points I've raised.
Thus far no-one who wants to keep Noble has tired to deal with a single one of them, and you, I'm afraid, are the living embodiment of that attitude.
Keep talking about the dropping of players, if you wish - though I think that issue would be better directed towards Dave O (as it's more his concern than mine), but if you're not prepared to answer a single question that I raise, don't bother replying at all.
