| I can see the way this is going. The other clubs are signing decent Aussies we will be scraping the bottom of the barrell again and sign 3 or 4 players in the wrong positions.
Get rid of the deadwood - Bailey, Carmont, Coley, Smith.
It would be nice if we could get some sort of mutual agreement with Roberts and Riddell to terminate their contracts and send them back home like we did with Barrett.
Sign one decent prop (workhorse) and get the young kids in all the other positions. Ok we you will not get the instant results next year but you will see the benefits two or three years down the line.

I just say what I'm told. We were negotiating with Darrell Griffin a few weeks ago but they wanted O'Carroll for good and Mossop on loan for rest of year but we wouldn't let it and it fell through.
The thing with Darrell Griffin is he is average and if he came to Wigan he wouldn't be anything special but if he went to Saints or Leeds he would be a superstar thats what annoys me.
If IL is serious about rebuilding this great club he needs to get the right players, you can sign all your Baileys, Coleys, Riddells, Roberts etc but they are just steady eddies and nothing special we need great players in the making. Those players won't take us forward.
We need Darren Lockyer.
LMS is one of those good players in the making and he doesnt seem to have a massive ego where someone like Burgess would have although I wouldn't mind us signing Burgess either he reminds me of Glenn Lazarus.
Lee Smith(I know he's gone by the way), Peter Fox, Briscoe, Burgess, LMS, Owen, Shenton, Wheeler, Cooper, Riley, Myler, Wheeldon, Westerman, Pelo are all players who have a bright future in the game and we should try and sign them now because in 5 years time they will be sniffing around the international scene no doubt about it.

We have some of the best young players in the country year in year out. We know this cos we are consistantly good at acadamy and reserve level year in, year out.
We do not need to sign big names we need to start giving more of these guys a chance. Once we get a good base of these players in the first team with a year or two's experience then we can bring one or two big name stars to fill the gaps.

Yeah I know I was identifying other good young players at other clubs we should sign now before they price us out further down the line.
So why don't our youngsters kick on then?
I'm starting to think maybe time has to be called on Brian Nobles reign if steps aren't taken to sort this out. Phelps himself asked for help from Rads to master the fullback position. What does that tell you? He isn't getting the coaching he needs.
When you think about it people say we need a new 7 and Tommy Leuluai isn't a 7.
Why don't we get Joey Johns over to tutor both him and Sam about playing in the halves?
Then we probably wouldn't need a new 7 as we would have an improved Leuluai but surely Noble would have recognised this? Being the coach and all eh?
We would save cash to put towards a top notch prop or two. Burgess and LMS

| For me you have hit on the exact rerason why signing younger players from other clubs will not work at Wigan - they will not get the correct coaching, we have to sign experienced players.
The current coaching and backroom staff are not good enough to develop players - there are several players currently at the club with coaching needs or players who are not improving from one season to the next. Until that is sorted out then the only way the squad will improve is to sign experienced players (such as Lockyer etc).

| According to League Express and Martin Offiah, Richie Myler has turned down Salford's offer for and extended contract.

Then the lad's got sense.
Much as it is desirable for young starlets to stay at their club of origin, Salford are even further from silverware than Wigan.
Myler's future surely lies elsewhere.

Methinks your right.
Would Myler have been good for us for 2010 anyway. Him and Sam would be very inexperienced and would have bad games, with our fans as well they would start to boo and get on their backs after a couple of bad games and before you know it all the potential they had is sadly down the toilet.
Lockyer?
Orford?
Anasta?
Cronk?
Finch?
Doesn't look to promising at the moment

There is no way you could have two tenagers at halfback together. They would be easy pickings for the old heads in the opposition. Would Leuluai be the right type of player to aid a young halfback long term?
When all said and done, Myler has turned down their current offer, who knows if an improved offer may be forthcoming? It is the first stage of negotiations afterall.

Tommy can't understand the number 7 role so god knows how he can teach a player (Myler) who is already streets ahead of him.
Sams not a teenager and Myler is ahead of his years.
Anasta is a 6 or 23 and not that good.
Lockyer/Orford too expensive for someone of their age, and they've both stated they wanna end their playing days at their clubs.
Cronk? Dream on.
Finch-this is a possibility.

Interesting how the things work out. I remember when ML signed the now agent of Myler (Offiah) and labeled Warrington a small club unlike Wigan.
Now it looks like Offiah's star man is going to that 'small club' over ours.

There could be many reasons why that would happen, not least the reason that Wigan don't want him.

That's true Wigan might never have expressed an interest, I just hope that doesn't come back to bite us later on, plus if we haven't put a bid in for him it'll be interesting to see who does come in at halfback, hopefully not some second rate Aussie.

| Myler played two games againts us and was average at best.
He played for England and was brilliant.
The difference perhaps that the Salford pack was well beaten and the England pack steamrollered the French forwards.
The first job is to get a pack that will dominate and win games up front. When we have a pack who can do that then we can talk about half backs to bring in. Until then go with what we've got as the pack and prop forwards are the priority.
This has been the case now for 3 seasons plus, so where are they?
Fielden in 2006, Coley 2008 and that's it.
Everything come from the power of the front row. Fans know it, Noble knows it but IL doesn't appear to.
Until IL resolves the prop problem we are going nowhere except backwards.
