Quote: sergeant pepper "When you initially think back, your brain goes to the finals etc but some of my fondest memories are from regular season games. Maybe it's the pressure of a final that can take away some of the enjoyment? The relief of not losing, is almost as great as the win itself.

Personally, I loved the win Vs Wire away in 2010. We hadn't won there in what seemed like ages and, it was nail biting. Sam's chip over to set up a try & HH holding onto possession after a monster hit from Morley will stay in the memory for a long while.

Also, what was the year when we went to Saints with a bunch of kids and turned them over? I think it was Luke Robinson that bossed it that day.'"

Thats very true, when you think back to the Warrington challenge cup game when we nearly blew the lead (2012?) but i remember that match for 3 moments of individual brilliance from Sam Tomkins, the insane injection of pace from Andy Coley to score and the Josh Charnley break.

I forgot a moment, Joel Tomkins try at Wembley. Brilliant. I was at Cartmel races and ended up in the local boozer instead of going onto the racecourse. I was stood with 2 Leeds fans and had great banter.

On that, banter wise. Every time i went to Knowsely Road, having to walk through the home end to get to the away bit, i always had banter with the Saints fans, even in the pubs beforehand. Never a hint of violence. Just the way it should be.

Quote: NickyKiss "I’ve just had a watch of it and as ever it’s a thing of beauty. My favourite part is a guy in a black jacket, who was sat on the front row of the touch line stand you can see in the background when Sam turns to run backwards. He runs at the barrier ‘air punching’ like he’s imaging he’s smashing Tomkins face in
That cameo appearance by narked Saints fan just completes it.
My youngest lad starts laughing about that guy by just mentioning his appearance.
Pure unadulterated gold

February 2014 , me and my 12 year old son went half way around the world for six days to watch the Wigan play the Roosters . Trip of a lifetime . Arrived in Sydney same time as the team. Ian Lenegan made a point of shaking our hands in the airport, and thanking us for travelling so far to watch the lads . We went watching West Tigers train curtesy of a mate who’d previously played there . Had photos with Pat Richards at Wests , who’d just returned there from Wigan . Went up to Parramatta to the best RL merch shop in Aus , Peter Wynns Score . Cost me a fortune icon_smile.gif
We spent an afternoon in Coogee Bay with the Wigan squad at a BBQ.
Did a Sydney Harbour Dinner Cruise with Brett Kenny as guest speaker , and ended up on Granada Reports icon_smile.gif being interviewed
Spent the night before the game with all the Wigan fans in a bar by the harbour . Great atmosphere!!
Game day was amazing , bar the result ! Lots of Wiganers and ex pats in the Sydney Football Stadium that evening .
A fantastic trip that we’ll never forget

SAINTS THE ORIGINAL AND PERENNIAL CHEATS For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled. For 27 - 0 you get a trophy For 75 - 0 you get sod all. Wigan had eight in a row Saints have five in a row:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_3076.jpg

So many - but here goes.

1957 Leeds away in the challenge Cup. Billy Boston scored two 75 yarders, the "football green" sports paper labelled him Wigans "sepia streak" not sure that would be allowed now. Wigan lost the game by two points, David Bolton broke his leg and we missed a late kick to draw the game.

1959 v Hull, my 1st Wembley. Wigan win and Billy B scored two. The walk down Wembley Way and seeing the Twin Towers was something special, I don't think the arch has the same appeal.

1960 v Saints in the play off semi final at Knowsley Road. Wigan moved Mick Sullivan to stand off against Murphy, they had a scrap and both got sent off. Billy moved to centre and waltzed in for two tries for a Wigan win.

One week later at Odsal in front of 88,000 fans with Billy again at centre Wigan demolished Wakefield, again Billy went in for a brace.

1965 v Hunslet at Wembley. Midnight train from Wigan, bumped into Pete Townsend and Keith Moon with two beautiful young ladies on either arm on Oxford Street. Great game as well. icon_cool.gif icon_biggrin.gif

1980 v Cas away, the game that saw us relegated. After the game we met up with a friend who was involved with Featherstone. I remember his words "You'll be back winning things soon" How right he was.

1987 v Manly at Central Park probably the best atmosphere at a game I've ever known.

1989 v Saints at Wembley - nuff said

eight in a row.

2010 last derby game at Knowsley Road

2010 Grand Final

2012 1st derby game at Langtree Park Sam Tomkins and Gareth Hock ran riot.

So many it's hard to pick just those few!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Disagree. The fact is that the majority of one-eyed fans would have loved him in their team.

If you get loads of stick, it’s because you’re good.

Nobody was abusing and going mad at Matty Bowen, were they……

I've not googled to verify match details but I'm sure Rouges will correct me if I'm miles off

Hilton Park, Leigh
2nd Challenge Cup tie 1968
Capacity all ticket crowd (I'm pretty sure it was AT)
My first ever away game aged 10
None of my brothers would take me to the match so me mam asked a neighbour if I could go with her.
Mrs Seddon was a good neighbour, particularly if you played rugby outside of her house as she would gladly let you play there all day unlike some neighbours would would literally "pop" your ball if it went near their house
Mrs Seddon got the tickets and booked the coach. She was Wigan through and through and nobody but nobody could even suggest if we played badly or were a bad team. If they did god help them. (I'd be in trouble with some my recent postings!!)
On match day (could only have been on a Saturday I'm sure) me mam put me some butties for the long journey and Mrs Seddon had her 20 Park Drive, a "bottle" in her handbag and her brolly incase it rained.
Got on the coach at The Halfway House and the young lads at the back were singing away. We were off to Leyth a place I'd never really heard of and me dad confused by telling me that Leyth played in Red & White hoops. No one else can play in Red & White hoops I thought no one else but us! Mrs S soon put me straight by correcting me that we played in Cherry & White not a shoitie Red & White.
Don't remember the journey but I'm pretty sure Mrs S would have been telling what dirty gets Leigh were and we'd have to sort them out.

Don't remember much about the game either other than I could sort of feel the atmosphere and the game was a close tense game. Pretty sure fights broke out with regularity on the pitch and pretty soon one was going to breakout on the terraces.
Mrs Seddon got into an argument with a Leyth fan over a "dirty" tackle. Can't remember which player did what to who but this guy and Mrs Seddon were going at it hammer and tongue.
After several minutes of screaming at each other the guy pushed Mrs S away.
She reacted by repeatedly hitting him over the head with her brolly and quite literally beat him to the floor. All the fans nearby were roaring her on (obviously we must have been in the Wigan end) and after a while he was shouting for help.
The Wigan crowd were laughing and basically taking the urine out of the Leyether. From seemingly nowhere a copper came into the crowd moved Mrs S out of the way and picked the guy up.
Some commotion went on and after a while the copper escorted the Leyther away and the Wigan crowd were shouting and singing and cheering Mrs S.

Don't really remember much about the game but we won. 8v4 I think. I don't remember who scored and I don't remember much about the game but I knew I loved it.
I was hooked. We won. I was sure we would win every match and every away game was going to be at full to capacity. We were unbeatable and I was a supporter of the greatest rugby team in the world.

Coming off the ground Mrs S had obviously become a bit of a celebrity and loads of people were shouting their support to her and as we were all walking off the ground roaring with laughter.
When we got on the coach everybody started cheering when we got on. Obviously word had got around and people had been waiting for Mrs S to get back to the coach. Her facing was beaming.
She had a lovely smile, particularly when we won. Nowt as nast when we lost. Wonder where I got that from?
From that day my love for the game and club just zoomed.

I have a few, 2010 at Knowsley Road for the final Derby was a belter, the grand final was even better although I was a little disappointed we didn’t win by more which our performance deserved. The 2013 final coming from behind and scoring 28 unanswered points was great.
2 that standout for personal reasons were the 98 final which was my first ever Wigan final and also the inaugural grand final which wasn’t a classic but capped a great season where we barely lost a game from memory.

i've gone slightly differently and little moments in games that stick out in my memory. There will no doubt have been better games or moments in games, but these are ones that have just stuck with me

TL putting the big hit in on Mauri Fa'asavalu at KR. Saints fans still thinking he was dead hard and TL was running scared of him
Super Kelvin joining the fight. not particularly a great moment but one that has stuck with me, seeing him flying over the top of the scrap
Wigan v Manly - enough said about that. i dont think i have been to anything like it since
Tomkins try v Leeds at Wembley
Hanley v Saints at Wembley
Henderson Gill v Hull at Wembley
Wigan v Hull in McGuire's 1st season. The defence on that day was brutal and Hull couldnt get out of their own half.

some more general
Andy Gregory - just his skill and ability. The little chip over the top (god how i wish someone would run that play in a game today). Loved how he would pick on the big guys too (Sironen and Boyd icon_smile.gif )
Gene Miles - his handling ability was out of this world and Martin Offiah probably wished he could have played with him for longer
Inga - debut, wasnt the greatest but that didnt stop us singing Inga the winger for almost 80 minutes away at Widnes
Ellery Hanley - dont need to say anything else. Privileged to have been able to watch him play at Wigan

No trees were harmed during the creation of this post. However, a number of electrons were mildly inconvenienced. . Saint94 wrote "Every team is in your feckin shadow....we all know." - Amen to that, brother . Saddened! wrote "We've got the worst backline in the competition, bar possibly London and Wakey. I'd swap our 1-7 with Salford in a heartbeat.":123.jpg

My biggest memories always seem to be the "Oh " moments...

Cowie's drop goal
Pongia's chip to the corner for the Carney try at Saints
Radlinski's try and the subsequent kick at home to Bradford
Radlinski's foot under the ball to stop (Cunningham?) scoring at Murrayfield.
Pat Richards emerging from the fog cloud to plonk the ball under the posts at Bradford away.

Some results are nice, but it's the small moments that I recall best.

Anyone remember the Brian Carney 2 tries v Leeds in a semi final eliminator? Awesome game.

Phil Bailey last minute winner v Leeds
Liam Farrell last minute winner v Saints
The team of kids who beat Saints circa 2003 I think?
Radlinski's performance 2002 challenge cup final.
Jason Robinson try 1998 in the final.
Last Derby at Knowsley Road. Paleaasina's try and the reaction of his team mates.
Andy Farrell playing with a broken nose and Mike Gregory appearing on the big screen (welling up as I type this now)
2006 when we beat Leeds away. Think Calderwood got 2 outrageous tries.
Amos Roberts' performance v Cas away when he moved to fullback. Devastated he had that injury.
The emergence of Sam Tomkins at fullback in away game against Harlequins 2011.
Brett Dallas' leaving his boots in the middle of the pitch.
Josh Charnley's try v Warrington 2011 quarter final of the cup ("it's a match winner, it's an absolute match winner from Josh Charnley)
Joel Tomkins try v Leeds Challenge Cup Final 2011. Does not get the hype it deserves.

I'll park it there. In terms of marketing the club should tap into this thread and make a promo video with fans talking about games like this.
