It wasn't so long ago that the sainted Madge used to play Lockers at half back rather than give a youngster the chance. No coach in the modern game has given more youngsters a go.'"
I'll make the bold predication that in 10/20 years no one will be talking about Shaun Wane. He'll be assigned to the history books and remembered as much as former coaches like Betts, Endacott, Raper etc are.
What is almost certain however is that people will be talking about the great foreign coaches that have transformed the club and they'll talk about Lowe, Monie and Madge when they do.
Wane might however be talked about as the coach who let Hampshire leave. When it's then said Matty Smith kept him out of the side it's going to be a WTF was he thinking type of comment that will undoubtedly follow.

I am a SW fan and ordinarily I would agree that to play 2 rookies at half back could be deemed to be asking for trouble however, we have never tried the combination so how do we know it wouldn't work?
My frustration isn't that they don't play together every week but for god's sake lets at least give them a chance.
Can anyone genuinely say that they have enjoyed our performances this year? All I want is the chance of these two youngsters to add some sparkle to our attack. It isn't like we are trying to polish a turd as the basics are there and SW just needs to give the combination a chance to shine rather than wither on the vine.

Just checking. Did Betts, Raper and Endacott win the double? I think that's how he might be remembered. That's definitely in the history books.

Just like John Dorahy then.......
What Wane won was nothing to do with him. It was the last achievement of Maguire's side.

Talk about rewriting history.
You might as well say 2010 was Brian Noble's team.

Well, it seems that some posters have very short memories and are in a state of denial about Wane's achievements

Quite the opposite - it's there to counterbalance the OTT hysteria generated by people like yourself who act like it's the be all and end all. A relatively easy cup run and a 2nd half injury collapse from Wire is hardly a vintage story for the ages. I'll love repeating that to my grand kids in years to come.

Wow.
Aren't you a happy chappy?
Personally, I couldn't give 2 es which teams we got drawn against in the cup run, as yu can only beat whatever is put in front of you and as for Wire's "injury collapse" - Please feel free to completely discard the fact that our half-back had his sinus fractured by Ben Westwood, but chose to stay on the field and win the Harry Sunderland trophy, rather than succumb to the pain and discomfort that he was in.
You can write it any way that fits you anti-Wane agenda, but the rest of us will just enjoy it for what it was - A fantastic come-back, under tremendous pressure, with a "broken" half-back, against a team that was widely tipped to be unbeatable at the time.

| Just to put some perspective into the agenda driven Wane debate:
Season 1 - Won hubcap but I think it's fair to say he made some mistakes re team selection at times that ultimately cost us.
Season 2 - Learned from mistakes of season 1 and rested players more - won the double.
Season 3 - Get to GF and if we could have played with 13 men for more than 2 minutes more than even chance of being champions IMHO.
In detail:
Season 1: SL: Beaten by Champions CC: Beaten by finalist
Season 2: SL: Champions CC: Winners
Season 3: SL: Beaten by Champions CC: Beaten by finalist
Season 4: SLicon_confused.gif CC: Beaten by finalist

I'd argue that over the last 6 seasons during the Maguire/Wane "era", we probably played the best rugby during 2012. The spell during the summer when we hammered Leeds at Headingley and put scores on Saints at Magic and Catalans in France was excellent to watch. The wheels came off a bit towards the end of the season and we were probably victims of our own tactics with the structure of the league, when a "win every game" mentality wasn't required, and ultimately two semi final defeats meant a very consistent season ended in disappointment. Wane learned from this in 2013, played the system much better and we won both trophies.
The poster who said Wane's 2013 Double season was Maguire's last achievement - that is one of the most ridiculous things I've read on this forum. Not only was it 2 seasons after Madge had left, it was a completely different squad. Two different half backs that had never played under Madge plus a new set of props.
The most disappointing aspect of Wane's tenure as head coach has been the manner of the CC exits in the last two seasons.
