Indeed. Typical "Mister Magoo" RFL officials.
Most Touchjudges and In Goal Ref's these days are about as much use as a button on a sock.

I agree: there was definitely a lot of forward momentum on the ball on both those passes to Charnley. Similar to the forward momentum the ball had after Tommy stripped it out of Westerman's hands before he claimed a touch down.
Briscoe's looked ok, but I would love to see how close he was to the line.
Things like this happen in every game. Some go for you, some don't, but Ganson didn't have his best game. If he'd dealt with the poor discipline earlier, we wouldn't have to go to Hudds with another two players out.

| At the end of the day, whether Wigan scored from forward passes or not, is debatable. They didn't look forward to me, but may have done from elsewhere. Either way, it's irrelevant. Angle of vision can be so important when it comes to forward passing that even the video referee isn't deemed reliable. We've all seen them called, and then from a different position they look perfectly okay. If the ref or touchjudge doesn't give it at the time, that's the end of the matter, and no amount of arguing will change it.
By contrast, those pictures show that Westerman's try was clearly a knock-on. Clearly. They've PROVED it.
Hull were even less effective against an undercooked Wigan side than I thought. No wonder Richard Agar's s******g bicks.

| Quote: Fames " He even tried to get them a draw at the end. What was the final penalty for? From Ganson's actions it seemed as though there had been some form of obstruction or a Hull player was taken out/pushed off the ball. It must be really hurting this Saints member that they are struggling so much....!
'"
It was a fair enough penalty - showed on one of the highlight packages (Boots'n'all the tries, I think)...which also showed that Ganson awarded it 8 metres closer to the posts (41m) from where the offence ocurred (49m). Fortunately, justice was done in that instance.

| That's what annoys me about having the big screen at some games and not others. That, and the other Hull try which looked like he's placed the ball down in touch would have definitely have gone to the screen, and probably wouldn't have been given. These are match changing decisions and could have potentially cost us the game. They should either have the big screen at all games to make it a level playing field, or scrap it at televised games.

| Charnley’s first try was a definite forward pass IMO. 2nd one was borderline. Westerman had the ball stripped over the line by Tommy. The 2nd Hull try was inconclusive. I watched Boots n All The Tries last night and watched them all of them in slow motion. O’loughlin was about half a yard behind the 10 yard line and Charley caught it about a yard in front. Whether the momentum rule comes into I don’t know (but I don’t really buy that c**p).
Ganson had a poor game, which was a surprise for me as I had thought he had improved recently. 1 try each given that were incorrect. We were lucky when he decided to penalise Hull for holding down, being in the way at the ruck or whatever it was as they had done that all afternoon and he had not penalised them once for it and then he decides to give us one at a critical time and position. Then he very harshly penalises Lima and gives it in the wrong spot to try to give Hull a shot?
Thems the breaks, we didn’t play well, the ref shouldn’t have come into it but he did. We still had enough to win.
The worst outcome of this match if the fact that the media will pick up on our so called technique again. If only other teams coaches would follow our example and keep their opinions to themselves and let their team do the talking on the pitch.
Quote (not word for word but along the lines of) from Barrie McDermott on the above program “Wigan won the title last year on the back of strong defense”. Didn’t we score the most points and play the best rugby? Yes, defense was/is a major factor, but so is/was attack. I assume most teams try to keep the other team from scoring and score more points than them?
He then went on to discuss our ‘controversial’ tackling technique imported from Melbourne. What are the chances that this will get discussed further on Boots n All this week, or perhaps Nathan Brown will mention it either prior to, or after the game on Friday?
And before anyone posts stating that I’m one of those ‘Everyone against Wigan’ posters, just remember that I’m stating facts. (Proven by the fact that I can admit the forward pass.)
Rant over.

Did you have a good view from 90 metres behind the play?

| One of the passes to Charnley did look forward but the camera is behind the play and 70% of the fans were so it is hard to judge.
The idea of Wigan cheating in the tackle is based on what? Coaches and players from teams that are struggling to get their acts together. Wigan have a very strong team ethic, Maguire has instilled a good work philosophy at the club. He also changed the attacking play of Wigan; making it an highlight of the success last year. Hard working defensivley YES boring NO.

Finally a good honest, well done sir.
I dont see what everyones problem is with Wigans tactics, if they break the rules they will get punished, nothing to stop other teams doing the same (which I think we did on Sunday)

Correct, Hull came with a game play to play it rough and tough to the brim of breaking the rules which you did very well. Absolutely nothing wrong with it.
Physically the on Sunday will be one of the toughest either team will play in this season.
Great game, and more of it please!
