| Quote: Morning Glory "I thought Hansen left him exposed a couple of times.
I don't think DG did much wrong all night, certainly no more 'mistakes' than you expect to see in any game from a centre. He showed great pace, good hands when needed and took work off the forwards in the right areas. I'm pleased for him and would hope he's there or thereabouts next week.'"
Was going to say the same about HH - he came out of the line twice and made a total hash of whatever he was trying to do. Fortunately FC bombed the chance the 2nd time.
Granted Goulding isn't the strongest in defence but with a gap inside him left by HH, and with him and Pat drifting towards the touchline as we'd expect he was always going to struggle through no fault of his own.

Disagree that it was HH
1st was clearly Sam who came flying out of the line leaving a gap that I think I could have gone through. Pat did try to position phelps to take the inside man so he could take the ball carrier, but he didn't
2nd I thought was Goulding but could be wrong - but they bombed it
Thought Horne played pretty well and was the one most likely to break our line

| Thought Goulding had a good game tonight. Would like to see him keep his place next week and let carmount get fully fit. We have a short turn around to the leeds game after playing cas and then we have saints and Wakefield in 4 days. This is where the squad rotation will come into play and if we have a fully fit carmount for leeds after 2 weeks out then would prefer that. Goulding ha done litle wrong in the games he has played so should keep his place.

I'm pretty happy with keeping Goulding in ATM. My only concern is that he's a bit under-sized for a centre and might struggle against a bigger opponent such as Keith Senior so I'd rather Carmont came in against Leeds if he's fully fit again. Ne need to rush him back in for the Cas game though

Keef plays left centre. So no worries about him against Gleeson.

Entirely agree.

Fair enough thought it was HH first time.
That said I think we are picking holes in a performance that was, last 10 mins or so apart far better than last week against a better side imho.

Goulding has come up against Senior before when playing right centre and on every occasion has had a good game. However if he keeps his place he will be playing on the other side, so he's up against Delaney who IMO is a better centre, so it will be a really big challenge.
Having Goulding and Tomkins down the left does leave us a bit exposed because of their inexperience. The team tend to become drawn in down the middle which can leave the wide players exposed, and in Goulding and Tomkins we have two small players out wide, which could become a problem against a back rower who likes to target the backs such as Ali Lauiititi.

I was going to post the same myself. Some of Gouldings best games at right centre came against Leeds and Senior. I remember him not giving him a sniff at Headingley a couple of times and I remember him scoring a good try and beating Senior in a game at the JJB.
Like you said though he'd come up against Delaney who has had a good start to his Leeds career. I don't know a great deal about him but I wouldn't have major worries about Goulding coming up against him tbh. I think we look good enough at the moment to have the confidence to back lads like Goulding and O'Carroll to play against anyone. In the past I think they were looked at as weak links simply because they were young kids.

It was Goulding the second time and fortunately they bombed the chance to score. It could have been a different game had they have scored there. Fortunately for us they didn't. They seemed to target Goulding and made a couple of breaks down that channel, but I don't think he can be soley to blame. I will have to watch the highlights. He had a good game.
It was a fantastic finish for his first try. I didn't think anyone could top it and then Roberts scored a beauty from an O'loughlin kick! We scored some fantastic tries last night.

I could be wrong but I didn't think they were necessarily targeting Goulding. If I'm not mistaken the second time you mention Hull had quite a big overlap as indeed they seemed to the first time and on a few more occasions afterwards suggesting the problem was further in field. The defensive line seemed to be drawn inwards towards Long which meant when Horne received the ball he went to his right and there was a quick overlap.
Throughout the game Richards was defending wide on the touchline man to man with his opponent whilst Sam Tomkins was straying inside looking to get more involved defensively leaving Goulding somewhere in between. I think we were a little bit short of some defensive organisation down that side.

Where were you sat? From the East Stand I couldn't see as clearly that side of the field so you could well be right. I will have to check out the highlights.
By all means though Darrell Goulding had an excellent game. If he keeps it up not only will he stay in the side he might well earn a long term contract. Keep it up Daz.

| I think he has proven what I said pre-season....that he is an excellent squad member! He can come in and do a top class job when injury strikes, which also goes for a few of our other fringe players. We've not had that in quite some time.
