To be fair, the assistant is usually the "good cop" bridge between head coach and players. I'm sure Wane's approach would change if he got the top job and another "good cop" assistant would take his place.

| I dont mind if Maguire goes at the end of the season as he has done his job here and it was always viewed as a stepping stone to going back to Aus. However, what I dont want to happen (which inevitably will) is that when its announced during the season, then we go on to lose a game. You will hear from fans 'His head isnt in the job' and 'Get rid now' etc. This isn't going to help whatsoever.

| Quote: Cruncher "I don't believe anything yet, and even if I did it wouldn't matter a jot because I know no more and no less than you. There is minimal factual information in the public domain about this matter from which any of us can draw any firm conclusions. There are almost certainly numerous factors which did not make it into that old press release you're hanging onto for grim death, which could have created various alternative outcomes. You don't know about them, and likely as not you never will. '"
I know the club said he has a contract for 2010, 2011 and 2012. That is a fact. It was stated in October 2009 when he was appointed so the fact its "old" has nothing to do with the facts it contains. Do you expect them to repeat it once a month or something so the facts don't fade away?
The bit underlined is exactly what I meant when I said I could predict the response. You always say the same thing when it comes to club information. It's the ultimate fallback argument when presented with some information that doesn't fit with your argument. Nothing is impossible is what it boils down to. We don't know the whole story etc etc. "Almost certainly...." doesn't stack up to clear cut statements. There is absolutely no reason to believe they were not entirely honest and straightforward when they made that statement. You may as well say Madge was really appointed on a month by month basis if you are not prepared to believe the what the club said.
The sporting life report says "(Madge) initially joined the Warriors on a two-year contract with an option for a third season."
The BBC saysYou'd better chill out, Dave. There's a hint of trouble in the camp and yet again it's you who's leading the witch hunt. Frankly, it's making you look a right prat.'"
That is utter rubbish. The day I start malicious rumours you can have a pop if you want but in the meantime I am entitled to my opinion on this issue so there is no need to go around saying people look like prats.

The BBC says
Like it or not, the full details of people's contracts - opt-out clauses, options for additional years, compensations arrangements in the event of early exit and so on - do not make it into press releases.
A three-year deal with an option for Maguire to leave after two is still a three-year deal, and there's no reason why it can't be announced as such. That's all there is to say on the matter.
As to whether or not you're behaving like a prat, I suppose that depends on what folk think about a Wigan fan calling for the first coach to win us a title in a decade to be pilloried and calling him a dishonourable swine.

Good post
I cant really understand the criticism if he has a get out clause. If that was the only way we could attract Maguire then so be it, you cant always attract the best on your own terms. In his time so far he has transformed the club and left us in a much stronger position than before. He may not have even come without such a clause and we may have been left with Noble or another inferior coach and in much the same position as before. As it is we are a club transformed and coaches like Wane, as well as the players, have learned a great deal under Maguire to take us forward futher.

| I think we should just shut up and wait because nothing official has been released which means nothing official has happened. Lets wait until we hear something official first because rumours will destroy the team.
It's obvious he will leave to NRL some time but we will just have to wait and see.
And I've seen on facebook people pointing out that he didn't turn up for training today - no he didn't but nobody did as there was no training today. I walked past Edge Hall a couple of times personally and their were no cars on the car park.
Wednesday is a day off for the first team however the players can select to do some optional fitness training at Robin Park with Mark Bitcon

As a Bulls fan i agree with all of the above as we went through the same thing with Orford last year. All these aussies my be good players/coaches put the ESL in there opinion will never meet the standard of the NRL,so will only ever be a way for most past it aussie players to topup the pension pots or young coaches to show there good enough to coach down there. This is what annoys me most about our game.

I'm also worried that our pulling power in terms of recruitment may suffer with Maguire leaving. I don't see us being able to lure the calibre of NRL players like Hoffman and Finch without a respected Aussie/Kiwi coach. The only hope is Maguire puts in a good word. I reckon bring in Adrian Lam as assistant'"
Can't see this being an issue. It is Wigan RLFC its not like players are going to say "who are they", unless you try to sign the Pope. When Bradford promoted Brian Noble from the backroom staff, nobody would have known who he was on the other side of the globe but he was able to sign guys like Jo Vagana, Vainikolo, Gartner, and actually Ian Millward was just an unknown from Leigh when he took over Saints and he was able to sign Fairleigh, Albert and Britt early on in his time there. Warrington managed to get Andrew Johns to come over....I wonder if it was the pull of Paul Cullen that clinched the deal...

Matty Elliot, Jason Taylor, Steve Faulkes, Shaun Edwards and Shaun Wane are names knocked about, though it is the scum newspaper so none of them will probably get it
Names like Elliot & Taylor worry me, we either need to give Wane ago and bring in an assistant for him, or go for another stand out Aussie candiate (Madge 2). It's vital IL gets this right, but he generally seems to be quite good at these decisions.

IMO Wane getting the job would be a very positive move for British rugby league development, assuming you guys are positve he could do a job.
