Phelps had not played a lot and we signed him. Smith and Pryce had not played for a year and we signed them. Hes a bit like McGuire then step up from the class outfit.

Phelps and Smith had plenty of history in the NRL. Phelps played three seasons with at the Bulldogs and Smith was 2005 Dally M Rookie of the Year, beating Greg Inlglis in the process.
Try and defend Pryce, I dare you

Phelps has played more games in 16 months at Wigan then he ever did in the NRL. Wigan took a gamble on him really because he had only played 39 games for the Bulldogs and luckily he's come up trumps and offers good cheap utility value. Perhaps fuel to my theory that the best imports signings are always the ones that are not big names.
Having seen Smith I don't know how he ever won "Rookie of the Year" (hate the term Rookie, it's so american!). I suppose he, and perhap Karl Pryce, lack the talent or will in the head rather than with ball in hand.

| I would have Ainscough in the starting line up - either way if that means Roberts out, or Richards full back Phelps out so be it.

Unknown to many fans, but not the coaching staff or indeed many down under. This lad from Halifax playing reserve grade at Melbourne is an unknown to folk in Australia too.

Yeah, wasn't it something like 35 games in 3 years? Injury and not being deemed good enough were to blame for that. The point I was making was that he wasn't an unknown quantity. Maybe most Wigan fans hadn't heard of him, but the coaching staff will have done their homework (I hope) and he was a known name down under.

| If Carmont re-signs I can see the 1-7 as it has been for the latter part of the season.
1 Phelps,
2 Roberts,
3 Gleeson,
4 Carmont,
5 Richards,
6 S Tomkins
7 Leuluai.
I don't think MM will change all that much around early doors. As the season progresses, well we shall see!

| As ful back has become so key to a sides success i would prefer for us to bring in a specialist.
This year we were just short of being good enough and i think this is a key area along with prop and wing that we need to change.
Ideally i would bring in Minichello, Mason and Ainscough for Phelps, Fielden and Roberts. But i cant see Roberts getting the boot now we have another aussie mercenary as coach.

| I wouldn't touch Mason with a barge pole.
And it seems like a lot of the coaches in the NRL feel the same to.
The Roosters feel that even going to Japanese RU 'won't be far enough away'

An assistnet coach coming over to take "the most difficult job in Super League", an un-proven head coach. Dont get me wrong i hope he's fantastic, but what was wrong with Mike Gregory's coaching, i would have preferred Wane to have been given a similar chance.
Mason is a proven performer at every level he has played.

| He plays in the position now and we aren't signing players for 2010 so I think its a given he will get the no. 1 jersey for 2010.
For 2011 when he is off contract we should be looking around to see who is available as no.1 is such a key position these days and if there is anyone better then make a move. This applies to any player really, when their contract is up it should not be automatic to re-sign them but more so in key positions IMO.
