| Quote: apollosghost "and Bateman's not big enough, he'll never make it.'"
Bateman is a rare talent. He may not be big but he is deceptively strong and has a Rolls Royce engine which makes up for his lack of size.
Williams wont be able to hide around and have one good game every now and then and he will need to do a lot more than just flying up in support from a break from Gildart with a clear run to the line.

| Hard to say how he’ll do. Josh Hodgson looked like a strange signing at the time and he’s now rated as one of the NRLs stand out 9s etc.
Some questioned Bateman, and last week he got the Dally M SR of the year.
Almost impossible to say.
I wish him all the best. You only live once, RL is a tough sport and a short career. Fulfil all your dreams while you can.
And if he wants to come back, if it benefits our club and team, it wouldn’t make good business to turn the cold shoulder to him. Be open.

| Quote: The_Enforcer "How long will he last in Australia?
Ill give him about 6 games then he will be found out and dropped and come crawling back to Wigan for us to take him back. I hope we dont do it though, lets not get in to this re-signing players lark. If they really wanted to play for Wigan they would not cut short their stay. When they come back they just go through the motions like Burgess.
I watched the Salford game again and Williams was exposed for being the show pony that he is. A good half back would of taken over and got the team moving when Tommy went off but Williams just seemed to vanish out of the game.'"
I'll have a bet with you that you are wrong.

| Williams will succeed in Australia, he’s criminally underrated over here and he’ll flourish behind a pack that can actually make metres and win the battle, he’s two steps ahead of everyone at Wigan and he’s been very good this year

| Who is he going to dislodge in the Canberra team? I think he’s going to be playing a lot of reserve grade rugby

| It appears that Sezer may make way for Williams. Will he make it? Who knows? The earlier poster re Hodgson is valid in that some take their chances while others don’t make it. My opinion is that if Sezer stays Williams may struggle to hold down a spot but I don’t care much either way. My lasting memories of him are ones of frustration rather than satisfaction.

Sadly your last sentence is how many people will feel.

| I honestly believe that some folk have a blind spot where George is concerned.
There's no doubt about his talent or his physical prowess, but we've all seen him drift through matches that he could have have injected himself into a lot more.
He could have been so much better for us. I reckon we've seen him hit his straps 1 in every 3/4 games. Compare that to Hastings, who has micro-managed Salford's attack all year, and propelled them right to the top of SL by his own personal example.
I thought GW had all the tools when he first came on the scene. But we've only seen that in flashes.
Whether he'll replicate that in Australia, or quickly learn that it'll mean he gets dropped permanently, remains to be seen.

| With the resources, structure, facilities and coaching available in Australia he will develop more in the off-season than he has in the last 3 years here.

| Its entirely up to him how far he can go but he will need to up his game considerably (and consistently) to be a hit in the NRL

20333_1393344959.gif Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_20333.gif |

| Where’s he going to play? Right sided half because Wighton plays on the left and I can’t see him being shifted for Williams.

I second this, it’s getting tiresome now. Another to add to the ignore list.

| When on top form Williams is a fabulous player IMO but I do have my doubts about how he’ll go. He seems a quiet sort of lad who needs reassurance of his abilities. He’s been inconsistent for us but I’ve always wondered how much of that is to do with two issues that shouldn’t be a problem over there. One is that he’s never really had a hugely dominant pack to play on the back of and the other is that I feel he mentally switches off because the league isn’t the most intense over here.
I shall look forward to watching how he goes and I hope he’s a success but it really is a 50/50 for me. His record in big games doesn’t fill me with a lot of hope.

I don't know why anyone would even care. He's gone now. Good luck to him, he's no longer a Wigan player. End of.
It's like wondering what your ex-girlfriend is up to...
