I cant see it being that, last week was his worst performance of the season.

I cant think of any other reason with the likes of Coley Deacon and Tommy playing.

Maybe the captains team made the decision with MM..

Went to Bickershaw labour club for the game tonight and Lockers and Phelps were there. The question was asked as to why he was captain and the answear is pretty simple. He was added to the leadership group a couple of weeks ago as a reward for his form on the pitch and his attitude off it and Maguire thought he deserved his chance to lead the side tonight.

Good call imo and a big well done to Joel Tomkins.

Well given JT wasn't on his best form last week that just goes to show the coach takes a wider view of things than a one off "poor" game for a player who has been consistently good all season which is good to know. I am sure that will have done him good.

I am so pleased JT is doing well because he got some stick as he came up through the ranks but when he did so well deputising for Lockers when Lockers was out half the season I could not fathom what problems people had with him after that. Quite a few people on here thought he would be out of the door. Same with Hansen as many thought he was surplus to requirements as well

JT and Hansen are now getting the recognition that they deserve IMO.

Only takes one bad performance in the playoffs and we won't be Champions, no matter how many games we have won throughout the season.

I think you're doing Lockers a disservice there.

Sam has been good this season but others have been better imo.

Still hard to believe Sam has only really played a season and a half, if not less, of SL rugby.

Can’t wait to see what he’s like at 27/28 when he’ll be at his peak.

The kid really does have the potential to be up there with Edwards IMO.

Him and Joel will be the core of our team for the next decade

Isn't it nice to have such a number of choices - I was talking to Simon Collinson a while back, and he said the website had stopped doing the monthly MoM voting because first Trent and then Sam were winning easily every month. They've restarted it now the comp is so much more open!

i think winning the whole thing this year is not past us but i would be happy to finish top of the tree for the 1st time in 10 years, Jole and Sam plus PAT are the way to this. we had a core of good/world class players in the past with the likes of O'locklin still there but they need the new young plays to help us to the next level.

I noticed that last night at the game he was mouthing off (sorry, "motivating"icon_wink.gif in a very "Farrell-esque" style behind the posts when we were defending on our line, I thought look at Joel giving it out. Something we haven't seen for some time and we've been missing this, at the time I didn't realise he'd been made captain for the game, now I know why.
