| It would be nice to see more British lads in the team but at the end of the day, I don't really mind who is playing as long as Wigan win! All the points on Friday were scored by foreigners & no-one was complaining, it was 2 points in the bag & that's all that matters really!

No-one was complaining?
I was complaining the minute I heard the team given out, as were lots of people around where I was sitting.
People are starting to vote with their feet regarding the number of foreigners in our team.

| If the British lads aren't good enough then what choice do we have but to play foreigners?! We have the best of the local lads in the team already in Hock, O'Loughlin, Joel & Sam Tomkins with Ainscough also making a mark this season! I agree with what Radlinski said in the Observer about some of the young lads not working hard enough! The best ones will come through (ie.the ones named above & previous ones like Rads, Faz, Cassidy etc) but they need to keep working hard! Nobby has shown with the likes of Sam, Mike McIllorum, Joel etc that he will play them if they show the right attitude & determination! A lot is down to the player himself!

| We could go back to having young players like Wild, Brown, Aspinwall, Hodgson, Robinson etc in the team, but we would be playing Leigh, Widnes, Barrow etc.
It doesn't matter where the players come from. I'd love 17 Wigan lads but it isn't going to happen because they are simply not good enough in total.
I don't care if we win the cup or Superleague with17 St. Helens born players, 17 Chinese, 17 Africans or some mixture if they are the best available at that time.

They are?
TBH your the only person I hear complaining about it.
We've got the best academy in the league, one of our home products has been selected for england at a very young age and another is getting experience at another club to help him develop.
I don't see the problem.

And that's the difference right there.
Wigan as a club, and as a central point for the community means nothing to people like you.
How on Earth can it be OUR club if it is packed with Australians, Mongolians or Chinamen?
To be honest, that's a pathetic, win at all costs attitude that has lead us to having a team that has no foothold left in the hearts and minds of local people.
To hear someone say that they don't care if local players play for the club makes me want to be sick.

| Roberts
Ainscough
Gleeson
Carmont
Pat
Smith
Tommy
Prescott
Riddell
Coley
Hansen
Bailey
Joel
Feka
Fielden
McIlorum
Farrell
Phelps took a pretty hefty knock on Friday so could see him having a week off and that would allow us to see how Roberts goes at full back which is his long term position for us IMO
Might as well give Ainscough a game because for me this is the main way he is going to improve.
Farrell been doing really well in the reserves and 1 youngster is going to get their chance so it should be him

12324.jpg Best Wigan No7 ever
Terry Newton Wigan legend RIP:12324.jpg |
|
| I would go with
Phelps
Roberts
Gleeson
Carmont
Richards
Smith
Leuluai
Prescott
Riddell
Coley
Hansen
Bailey
J.Tomkins
Feka, Fielden, Farrell, Ainscough
When we interchange Riddell bring Ainscough on put Tommy to hooker and Phelps to SO Pat to Fullback
Think that would shake the opposition up a bit get more speed from the hooker and more speed on the wing when they are getting a little tired

Read again what I posted.
I would LOVE 17 Wiganers in the side IF they are good enough.
Would you like 17 Wiganers in the side if they weren't good enough.
Do you think the JJB / DW stadium would be full to the rafters with 17 Wigan lads in the side who weren't good enough.
Do you remember the likes of Ronnie Dootson, Adrian Foster, David Walsh,Terry Hollingsworth, Billy Melling, Bernard Coyle, Dave Regan, Martin Sivori, Mick Rennox etc.
Do you remember what happened.
Did the crowds flock to watch them?
When we won at Wembley in 1985 and almost 40,000 Wiganers went down to Wembley, how many Wiganers were in that team?

Correct me if I'm wrong but we went to St Helens in the Challenge cup a bit ago. This was the team:
Gleeson (wigan), Dallas, Aspinwall (wigan), Wild (wigan), Carney, Brown (wigan), Moran, Seu Seu, Newton (wigan), Sculthorpe (Oldham ), Allen (not sure), Tickle(wigan), Beswick (wigan).
Replacements: Hansen, Godwin, Guisset, Hargreaves (wigan).
Right, so theres 8 wigan lads out of 17. How did that go? I was there to watch that game, I'm not saying the score, because that actaully does make me want to be sick, rather than saying it for effect.
If you want a clue, google Saints vs Wigan, Challenge cup, June 2005
I want a SUCCESSFUL WIGAN, and yes, it would be great if every player was born and bread wigan, and wouldn't leave the side for love nor money, as well as being a clone of Farrell, Offiah or Hanley but it isn't going to happen. I would much rather sit through a win agianst Saint helens with a team full of Icelandish players than sit through that crock of agian, don't know if you went or not, but I did, and I stayed 'til the end, it was the worst rugby performance I've ever seen.
