Mentally I think I went back to that bridge at full time yesterday and jeez it felt good
As a Saints I take no notice of those we are never beaten by the better team (as we where yesterday) but because of refs ect

I actually can't wait for match day whereas with Lam I I dreaded the thought of a game.
Peet and his team have transformed the atmosphere of the whole club including players, staff and most importantly the fans.
I assume it's Hastings that you are referring to?'"
I've got mates who for the last three or four years fell away from being season ticket holders to little more than armchair supporters now actively interested in the team and club again. Of course plans are now in place to go to the final, with the prospect of taking in a few home league games at the back end of the season. Now whilst this is only one example in isolation I get the feeling that there is a bit of a buzz this season with supporters old and new due to our improved performances (2nd worst attack last season to best attack so far this season).
We have some big home games in the 2nd half of this season, be good to see some really good attendances that's been lacking since our return from the pandemic.
PS - He's one of two I'm thinking of yes.

| Bar that mad 15 minutes our defence was much better than on GF, line speed was improved and we focussed on getting Walmsley, Knowles, Makinson and Percival on their backs to legally slow the PTB. On the Ref - odd that he didnt' go upstairs for the 2nd try, I think Makinson was onside but Welsby/Hurrell were in front an interfering with play.

| Does anyone know the specifics of the offside rule - I.e. does a player need to be behind the ball, foot kicking the ball or the standing leg? With video ref decisions it seems to be if someone is more or less level then play on. Generally speaking I don't have an issue with that but maybe a different story when it's a big decision like the one on Sat.
Could completely understand Cade Cust's frustration with the ref for not even checking.

it felt like, after that, we didn't get a penalty all match........and we seemed to be getting 'caught offside' every five minutes
or was it purely co-incidental

Funnily enough just after the game ref Ian Smith was asked his opinion on this exact shot on twitter, he stated that he would have given the try had he been the video referee.
Therein lies the problem, watch this at full speed and its quite obvious it's an offside.

They’d definitely give it. Offsides seems to get loads of leeway nowadays and unless it blatant, they won’t overturn it. They would’ve looked at the kicking foot and said that was in line with the chasers. They should’ve gone to the screen but it probably would’ve been pointless (rightly or wrongly).

I think the way RL judges offside is far better than VAR in football. There's no rulers and protractors out. It's a case of... Well he looks onside or he looks offside. Much better.
That being said, Saints were offside.

No surprise from Smith. They're all equally incompetent.

Tbh, I'm looking at that pic and I'm not 100% convinced they are offside. The ball seems to be inline with the other feet, but it's really hard to tell. If it went up as a try, I think they'd struggle to over rule it, but likewise if it went up as no try they'd also struggle to reverse that one too.
The issue I have, and I hate refs, is their higher than mighty attitude. Go to the screen FFS. It's Wigan Vs Saints in a CC semi. Use the tech to help and, at least, try and get the right outcome. Sadly it was the Child's show.

Someone may prove me wrong but I thought both feet had to be behind the ball.
The photo on the link pretty conclusively shows that 2 or 3 players were offside.

| That is true. Trite to say it, but I don't think there's any way that try would have been given in the NRL. They have better tech than us though; more camera angles, clearer resolution. BUt of course the main point is, it should have gone to the VR.
