I have condoned nothing, except non-violence. If they threatened you and your family there are better (non-violent (that the RFL Respect Policy condones)) ways to deal with it. You could have reported them to the stewards and had them ejected. Your self-satisfied tone suggests that at the very least you enjoyed hitting him.
To blame your reaction on your armed forces training is the height of disrespect too. In my experience armed forces personnel are calmer and less inclined to violent acts than their civillian counterparts.
