| Quote jonh="jonh"I would love us to sign Myler and play him alongside Tomkins but what would be the potential cost, it is very dificult to mature 2 young halves at the same time and may well harm there career. What i would like to see is both Orford and Myler signed if cap space would allow so that Orford could be used as the main 7 with Myler/Tomkins being used as his partner much in the same way as Burrow and McGuire were brought through with Duneman.
I rate Lynch but he is not the enforcer i feel we need he is the hard working support Prop and although he should not be Fielden is currently playing that role in our team along with Coley. If we are to get the right ballance to the front row I do not think Lynch is the man.'"
So sign Sean Long then. He can show Tomkins the ropes. Moreover he is not going to be commanding a massive wedge on the salary cap. Something Orford defo would.
Also Last Son of Wigan wants to put Tomkins at fullback. An interesting proposition imo.

| Quote Last Son of Wigan="Last Son of Wigan"Firstly it's easy to get the impression Orford doesn't want to come to Wigan or the UK as he's said on many occasions he wants to finish his career at Manly.
He's never played SL rugby.
He's hardly had to play in the rain and bad weather conditions which we have in SL.
These are all factors.
Long however doesn't have the same issues. IMO, I think if possible, signing both him and Myler and a prop is they way forward if we can fit them under the cap.'"
I fully understand the reason for your opinion, but again i can counter Long has continued to say he does not want to leave Saints. Regards the conditions he may not have had to play in the cold but will certainly have played in the rain.
You seem to be hell bent on ignoring the problems that Long has yet keen to highlight the issues Orford has when they could very well be applied to Long.
Of the argument pro Long all i can see as a valid one is that Orford has not played in SL, which is fair enough, but in my opinion his style is very much suited to SL and to be fair there are not many good NRL 7's that do not go well in SL, its usually the forwards or wider players that struggle.

How many matches have you Orford play in the last 2 seasons?

Pass, most if not all that have been on Setanta and the highlights. Enough to form a valid opinion of him as a player in my opinion.

I watch most NRL games, not just on Sentanta. Seen him play regularly.

Jonh, as I said I will not be dragged in to anything. My point remains. It is my opinion and I think Long is the better option.
You seem to think Orford.
I have pointed out what I would do with Wigan.

I have never said that. In fact the opposite. I have said I have one option and Jonh has another.

I agree but i find it interesting that people are bigging up S. Long who is clearly a spent force and is deteriorating by every season, yet slate the form of Matt Orford who is the current Dally M medal winner as the outstanding player in the NRL last year (Smith would have got it i appreciate but he did not and still is it such a bad thing to be the second best player in the comp behind him). Winning the Dally M and playing in a title winning side has not been done by anyone in 2 decades at least as far as i know with Sterling (?) Hardly the form of a "patchy" player.
He captained his team to the NRL title racking up one of the biggest if not the biggest win in NRL final history, hardly the signs of someone without the leadership skills we need.
I am open to the idea of Sean Long, but to use some of the arguments you use in my opinion do not make much sence.
Considering you watch all the NRl games do they not show the ones where it rains on your t.v?

This is my point Jonh, I've seen how you post and how it gets petty. I will no longer continue in this discussion.
