| Well i think theyre pretty good.
Cant understand anyone listening to sky commentary but its good to hear exactly what the ref has given whilst you can hear the know alls around you broadcasting their BS of what is happening and why.
You'd have to go a long way to beat listening in to the reaction at the Grand Final from the Bulls players especially Jimmy Lowes when Chris Joynt did the infamous "voluntary tackle".
That was well worth the £5 for the ear piece

| Anyone know what frequency the referee's mics and earpieces operate on?
Could be interesting to listen to them throughout the season.

Andy Greg is the expert on this and posted this information about a year ago:
"According to the radio technician i have go to know the new system will be in place by July. It just means the output will move from 820meg to 850meg range
and the new inputs will be digital in the 470meg range which will make the reception better for all. And also the RFL radios they were selling at the 4 nations will work again. My new found friend will keep me updated."
I am not sure if anything has changed since then and what frequency the coaches use - anyone know?

I should imagine the coach signals will be encrypted so that the opposition can't hear whats being said.
I'm not sure if you can encrypt signal this way on what they use but I imagine you can seeing as you can with mobile phones. Based on the principle of quickly jumping between frequencies within a particular range designed to stop anyone who shouldnt getting a hold on it. Depends how secretive coaches are really.

Thanks for the info
Those frequencies all fall into UHF, way beyond what any normal radio can pick up. A quick Google search has left me dismayed. It looks like you have to fork out a decent amount of cash (anything from £80 - £300) to listen to those frequencies. The RFL clearly don't want people listening to the referees at normal games. With good reason I suppose.
