Quote: MashPotatoes "The Irony in this post is bursting the %100 level.
Our cup final was Leeds anyway, after all, they did the treble last season.'"

You really need to walk away. You'll not convince anyone here that the result in question wasn't just a blip owing to off-field problems. If it had been 22-0, you could probably boast about it more, but no-one on this planet will buy that Wakefield are 60 points better than Wigan in normal circumstances.

In any case, if you don't make it count, it'll be no more than a blip for you lot too.

You don't want to be like those sad St. Helens fans who still celebrate whupping the Wigan A-team 75-0, when in fact they got knocked out of the Cup themselves in the very next round.

Quote: NickyKiss "All the noise I heard come from Wigan was about how we'd have struggled to get a win with a full team out. We were missing ten players and many others were struggling with a virus but Waley were brilliant and showed no mercy. They've been on the wrong end of plenty of scores like that and it was their turn so fair play.

They can't seriously think they'd win 62-0 on a normal Sunday afternoon against Wigan with all things being equal though? That isn't arrogant to point that it but is just based on recent history. If they do and they could have then they'll certainly be challenging for all the trophies this year.'"

Much like Shaun Wane's idiotic coach to London comment didn't reflect the post match reflections of most Wigan fans, neither do MashPotato's musings reflect the attitude of most Wakefield fans. We won and we won well, and whilst there's some scepticism about Wane's reasons for fielding an understrength side in what has traditionally been a straightforward two points smash and grab, we're under no illusion that we're 62 points better than Wigan's first 17.

Worth pointing out I thought - to avoid MP's OTT reaction being conflated with the general view of the more reasonable WT supporter.

Wane let himself down with that comment and I think most Wigan fans acknowledged that. I would say 95% if what he came out with was very complimentary but he ruined it by tagging that on.

I'd like to point out we didn't field an understrength side in terms of resting players. We picked every single player that was available including ones who were ill. We got Bateman and Crosby back only for the Cas game with Crosby coming off a big operation and Bateman back from missing the previous two. We certainly didn't do an Ian Millward and send a second string side over with any thoughts of it being an easy two points.

Your response is welcomed. But really who cares if Wigan had 10 players missing? Wakey won fair and square. Let's hope you can build on what seems to have been good work by Brian Smith and get in the top 8 this season.

It's good for Super League that Wakey can compete like they have been doing over the last month or so. And also let's hope that when Wakey come to our place all the fans who have been giving it large on here feel emboldened to make up a decent away support for a change.

He did - it was the reaction of an angry fan, not of a respected Head Coach.

I guess that's where the scepticism comes in; some might reasonably think that he fielded an understrength side and it backfired on him - and the subsequent awkward video and Wane's dark mutterings about evil stuff afoot in the Wigan camp that nobody knows about or understands, sound like excuses. It doesn't really matter either way - it was a great result for us and a terrible one for you; the impact of it however, won't be apparent until the business end of the season.

There was no need for the 'coach to London' comment. Not only was it a bizzare one to make (the game was a SL match not a CC match), it smacked of poor taste.

Despite a barnstorming Easter, I don't think many Wakey fans are predicting even top 8; given the dire period we've recently endured, 4 wins on the bounce and a bit of positivity in terms of being competitive, is enough to lift the spirits.

As for those giving it large making up a decent away support - I imagine they'll both be there; as for the rest of us, if WT continue to be competitive, we might fill up a few open top coaches and make the journey!

We only need to look at our side the week before against Wire to see we weren't resting anyone.

I think in the long term the impact of that result could be far greater for you then us. It obviously hurts losing 62-0 but I don't think we'll dwell on it due to the issues faced and it'll all be forgotten if we strong enough wins together to get a place in the top four (which I expect we will). On the flip side Wakey can take great confidence from it and it'll make all teams wary of what awaits them at Belle Vue.

It's a funny old game but the result may well be of benefit to both clubs in the long run.

I like the way you say I'm being OTT and continue to post exactly the same things I've been saying. Nice work.
