| The idea of Bobby Goulding trying to sue the RFL for head injuries is laughable. Is he also going to sue all the nightclubs of the Northwest because of all the fights he got into?
He's a first-class lowlife, but this kind of thing does worry me, as I fear it has the potential to seriously impact on the game.

| The irony of Bobby Goulding taking legal action for head injury, absolute clown, disgusting human being who would seemingly see the game ruined for a few cheap quid...Because thats all it is, he's not interested in the safety of the players going forward as his legal team claim. Utter bellend.

Its not just about Goulding and the other players in Rugby League.
The issue has been started by players in Rugby Union and involves far more than the ten in League.
So, are they are all bell ends?

I suspect it's Goulding's hypocrisy that rankles.
He never worried about head injuries to players when he was hitting them in the head himself.

The responses are just about Goulding though. Dont think anyones saying there isnt an issue and people feel for players affected.
But Goulding, whilst im sorry he's suffering, will likely of received more trauma to the head in fights he's started in his life than he will of playing rugby league, the hypocrisy of the man is staggering.
Spent his whole adult life, on and off the field, provoking situations that inevitably result in taking shots to the head, then blames RL, because its the only thing he's got a chance of making money from.

20333_1393344959.gif Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_20333.gif |

| All skint.
One of the players is Jason Roach was up until very recently still playing amatuer rugby and playing in any ex players game he could, couldn't have been that bothered then.

| Lance Hohaia should be on for about 10 million then.
Bet he still can't remember charging at the big nasty man trying to hurt him.

| I’ve read a few quotes from some of the players who have been named and gone public.
Now the premise of the case is that they are doing it for future generations etc…yet every one of them talks about how they were treated when they retired, cast aside etc.
I genuinely believe some of these lads thought they were going to be supported for life by rugby league, and with all due respect more fool them.
The world doesn’t owe anyone a living and if all you have done is play rugby and not invest in your future whilst you have a wonderful opportunity to whilst getting paid to play rugby then that on them.
I do find it interesting Goulding talks about his drug and alcohol addition but is laying the blame for his unfortunate condition on the head knocks he took.

If it was that simple do you not think they would just make them compulsory ? Fact is they prevent cuts and scrapes but do sod all to prevent concussion.

Correct.
If anything evidence suggests they cause more concussion injuries than prevent.

I completed the NRL blue shirt course a few years ago. We were told head guards do nothing to protect the brain. Better investing in a quality mouth guard.

| My understanding is that it's more about return to play protocols and things like that rather than red carding every high tackle etc. Agree with the earlier poster about it not being right to apply today's knowledge to past events.
Agree with other comments about Goulding. Sent off at an amateur rugby game for telling a kid he would t*** his dad, then tried to get the dismissal rescinded by saying he would make sure the ref never got another game again if it was put through.

They don't owe them a living but there's a link to professional sportsmen and mental issues once they retire going from a life of being an elite athlete with a regime and competing at the top level. So the clubs do owe them a duty of care once they have retired. Not a living but support which they didn't receive and many others.
The argument they knew what they were getting into is pretty weak. Do we really think they knew they could get some kind of brain trauma that would have serious consequences in later life ? Probably not, was there evedance that continuous high impact collisions damaged the brain ? Yes. So there's a valid argument that the rfl and clubs failed in their duty of care to ensure the games rules were as safe as possible.
I would not be surprised they are successful if they go to court, if it's more about protecting the future generations of players they would settle out of court to ensure the future generations have a professional game to play.

Get what you’re saying but does my employer owe me a duty or care when I retire after the best part of 40years toil? There’s also a link to retirement in general and MH issues, where do we draw the line? If it’s a ‘journeyman’ player which club owes that duty of care?
For me our clubs should support players coming up to retirement, get them ready for it and prepared for it. Speak to retired players who had it good and bad. It’s hardly a secret that you must work on after playing pro RL, it’s hardly a secret that the money just isn’t there to sustain a player for life. BG has peed away all his money on drugs and alcohol with the occasional scrap to boot and now wants to blame the game for his own downfall which he alone caused?
