That woulday potentially explain why there isn't a quote from Gelling about his new deal.
Another point about Gelling- If you think back to the end of last season both him and Sarge ended the year in fine form. I'd argue that Gelling has kicked on from there whilst Sarge has stagnated/regressed.
No real talk about Sarge being rocks and diamonds though? Gelling has had to really earn this deal and imo he's done it with more pressure on his back than any other player of his standing/age.

| Fantastic player to tie down on extended contract, definitely maturing into a class and consistent performer..
Congratulations to Wigan

| Quote sergeant pepper="sergeant pepper"Excellent news and well deserved.
He's constantly improved over his time at Wigan and I can't see why that it would stop now.
Well done to IL for getting one of the leagues top centres tied down to a long term deal. He'd walk into every SL side apart from Leeds imo.'"
Agree 100% he's not perfect, no one could be, and he still has a lot to learn, but the guy has what it takes to be what he is IMO, a top centre. Hope we can keep him for the length of his new contract and beyond.

| Quote jonh="jonh"Give it a rest Dave honestly. Do you know the details and terms of the contract?
Whilst I agree Gelling is far from the finished article he is improving every year and is constantly adding to his skill set. He also racks up big meters helping us with our sometimes very average go forward.
It's not as if there are a wealth of quality centres queuing up to join Wigan, indeed I think this deal is another sign Sarg is out of the door in order to retain some stability in the back line.'"
Who needs a queue? Did Carmont form part of an orderly queue?
Quote jonhA right edge of Tomkins and Gelling in SL could and sometimes has been devastating. 4 years playing as a foil for Sam Tomkins, much like the New Zealand Warriors do committing players into contact with big guys and then using Sam as a foil will only open up more space for him.
It is depressing that all some can do is moan. The glory days are gone. The Salary Cap is a real thing that cannot be ignored and the top players will not come to SL even with the marquee player rule, which will just attract ageing stars past their best and maybe bring back some Brits.
Did you moan when we resigned Sam Tomkins because I can't remember the last time you posted without being ridiculously over critical.'"
Did I moan when we signed Sam? Well you tell me.
It should have stood out like a sore thumb one way or the other given it was him we signed.
You read what you want to read. It's got nothing to do with the salary cap. What Gelling has shown so far doesn't warrant a four year contract IMO. IMO = In My Opinion. Am I the only one on here who gets slagged off for expressing one different to the mainstream?
Well yes I know I am but I reckon, long term, I think I'm right more often than I am wrong.

1. Would love to track back your comments at the time Carmont was announced.
2. Wish IL would sell up and you would take over Dave. You seem to know all the answers.
The problem being IL is quite a positive person, willing to take the odd risk. (Surely thats part of the fun supporting our club). Whilst not everything he has tried has come off fair play for him trying.
With you in charge Dave in no time we'd end up being another Wakefield, loke other smaller Yorkshire clubs - afraid of change and taking risks.

| Made up with this, it's two fingers up to everyone (mainly our own 'fans') who gave him dogs abuse as well. Well in Gells!

Quoting the Carmont signing shows just how out if touch you are, totally different time with different cap rules and a much lower market value on overseas players.
Gelling is still young, 24, and is improving every season. He was recommended to Wigan by Dean Bell and the Iro's (what would they know about centres?). Whilst clearly he has areas to improve on he is improving and becoming a better player. On his day in SL he is almost unplayable due to his size and strength.
A 4 year deal gives him the security to continue working on his game, it gives us some consistency in our outside backs and increases the potential value of our asset should the NRL come knocking, as, as you often say contracts are not worth the paper they are written on.
It seems to me and others that you have become extremely negative boardering on bitter towards the club for some reason, either that it you have just become very negative generally. The club doesn't seem to be able to do anything right, and whilst they are your opinions I think more and more people are taking them with a pinch of salt because of what could be construed as an agenda against the clubs management for some reason. I'm not suggesting this is the case but it could be interpreted that way.

| I disagree with DaveO but hope he sticks to his guns. I for one like to see a bit of balance on here and he provides that, as did Jonh when he criticised SW recently. Funny how Jonh doesn't attract the ire of the pack in the way that DaveO does, though....

I concur. It would be extremely boring around here if everyone agreed.

I've got an idea why but I'll leave it at that.
As someone who's stuck up for Gelling from day one I'm more than happy with this.
We miss his kick return, big yards coming from our own line/half & he puts doubt in defences minds due to his unpredictablility and his size often causses teams to double up on him leaving space elsewhere.
He's our version of Masoe in a different position, not orthodox, not a classic player in that position but if teams let him dictate and don't deal with his threat the rest of the team play off the back of it.
