I think a draw should be made one week before, 2 bags, 1 bag has the top six in the league table, and 1 bag with the bottom 8, games are drawn from the bags and a ball could be drawn from a third with the day the games to be played. Sky could decide the order of the game play, or scrap the third bag if you want, what ever, but I think some kind of draw like this would be better than the farce we had on Saturday.

If the RFL used league positions from the prior week to allocate matches this arguement wouldn't exist.'"

That was my point mate. I completely agree with the thread and think fixtures based on league positions would be better. I was disagreeing that if Wigan had beaten Widnes I'd think any differently.

Dan Sarginson: "This is a fantastic opportunity for me to join the biggest name in the competition" 18/10/2013 Tony Clubb: "This is a new exciting chapter of my life signing for Wigan and I couldn't be happier" 18/10/2013 Romain Navarrete: “I’m very happy to have signed for Wigan Warriors. As soon I knew that Wigan were interested, they were the only team that I wanted to sign for. To me, Wigan is the biggest Club in Rugby League and it will be an honour to pull on the famous Cherry-and-White jersey next year. I look forward to working with Shaun Wane and the players at Wigan.”:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_10172.jpg

Wire are clearly too strong for Widnes and will get 6 points from them in the league. Widnes won't be in the play-offs so it doesn't matter if they lose. Wigan/Saints on the other hand I can't see one team winning all three, and they will both be in the top eight regardless.
Magic weekend as a concept of all teams playing over two days I believe should be used to bring in new money, attract new fans, and grow the appeal over a wider audience.
If it's used as an extra league game, then I agree the 1v2, 3v4, 5v6 format makes the most sense.

Quote: Famous "I just dont think there should be an extra game as it falsely distorts the league table. Just do away with the extra game and make the weekend a 9s competition with all the best players, get a decent sponsor, split the prize money amongst the players etc and it would be a great event and it would be competitive. It really would be something different in the RL calender too.'"

That is a good idea. Get some serious prize money involved and get a trophy organised and leave the league as home and away only doing away with the extra fixture.

Surely they should have Warrington v Wigan as the derby in these fixtures.....you guys seem to have an emotional attachment to the Saints, but it's time to aim a bit higher and have derbies against us. Saints can play Widnes in the derby of the scousers and it would be more evenly matched.

Well out of your last 20 games against Saints you've won 9, drawn 2 and lost 9.

Whereas out of your last 20 games against us you've won 7 and lost 13.

So if you regard Saints as your bitches off that record I think you can understand how we regard you.

Much as I love beating the stains, I yearn for some proper opposition. You cannot call yourself the best until you have beaten the second best, so I would rather play the Wire, than watch them rack up a cricket score, and us too, (had it not been for us playing with only 11)

Why have Wigan v Saints as the derby game all the time why not rotate it by playing as example
year 1 Warrington v Saints
year 2 Wigan v ST Helens
year 3 Wigan v Warrington
the one missing out play Huddersfield and
have Salford and Widnes as a derby

I do find it amusing how Warrington fans are so desperate to have a proper derby match. Historically they have always been a rather small club with no real fanbase as such. However now after a few decent seasons when they are finally begining to attract some decent crowds they now want to mix it with the big clubs. Its quite sweet really.

I think you've misunderstood the thread, its Wigan fans on here saying it's unfair that Warrington only have to play Widnes whilst Wigan have a harder fixture.

Most Warrington fans don't care, they would happily just smash Widnes every week but I'm providing a constructive suggestion that Wigan come out of their comfort zone and look to aim higher. It can only benefit your players to be exposed to higher standard of opposition.

Isn't the problem that if you have such an event, the fixtures will have to be planned a long time in advance? What with travel etc for fans of Cats and London for instance?

not hard to do, as long as you state well in advance what day London and Cats are going to play ( they both play same day just in case they are 1v2 or 3v4 etc.etc.) As long as the fans who travel the furthest know the day they are playing the opposition is irrelevant. If it is planned right you could have round 13. that decides the fixtures then for the magic event...... then you have 1/4's of the challenge cup followed by a weekend fixture of the Exiles match.

That gives everyone else apart from lon/cats 3 weeks to prepare for travel etc......which is a week more that we get for CC matches.

It's been fun.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_44480.jpg

For the 1v2 format you play every team once that's week 13 in theory, that then is the team selection, then you play week 14 and even though the positions might change in that week it's immaterial, then a week after week 14 you have the magic weekend. That gives you a fortnight to plan which day you get off work or whatever.

You state at the beginning of the season which matches will be on which day eg Saturday 3v4, 13v14 & 5v6

Job done
fairer and more intense and a truer reflection of who should top the table.

If Wire pip you by a point for the hubcap this season that will be courtesty of the Magic Weekend. The dog shagger's five tries could have been scored by anyone who could hold onto a ball long enough as Ah Van wasn't d - sorry injured!

One year the RFL did infact make it a contest when (was it 2009?) we played Catalans. I think, based on where the teams finished in 2008, first played second, third played fourth etc. If for the next two years the "derby" format continues, then Wire have a distinct advantage.

Personally, I would abandon this RFL money spinner and have a 26 game season and leave the weekend free for the Exiles game.
