That said, I can understand why newcomer Saints fans might like what they've heard about him - the kind of behaviour Bobby Goulding specialised in has been copies and refined by their more recent hero, Sean Long. The difference is that Sean Long was a very good player, whereas Goulding was average-to-okay.

Anyone who genuinely believes otherwise needs a reality check.

He was a good player in terms of raw ability, he just didn't fulfill that ability and was often really inconsistant and giving away daft penalties etc, overall average to okay, but potentially could have been really good. He had it on a plate at Wigan and threw it all away.
