| Quote: DaveO "Spot on.
I have great memories of CP. When I get a suitable scanner I will post a link to photos I took on at the last game there once I have them digitised.
I would have loved to have seen CP upgraded but really even if it had been it could not match modern stadia.
But just think, had DW succeeded in buying it when Jack Robinson sold it to Tesco where would be now? Well my guess is DW would be donating CP to Latics as he has done the JJB!
Could anyone live with that!?
Dave'"
If DW had bought Central Park, we would still be at the JJB / DW stadium at Robin Park.
The only difference would be that Whelan would have sold Central Park to Tesco and pocketed the extra £6million for himself.
Don't forget Whelan offered £6million for Central Park, Robinson sold it for £12milion.
And whilst we're on the point I see Whelans puppet Mr. Ernie Benbow has come crawling out of the woodwork after going into hiding for some time.

| Nobody else will remember the time in the 1980's when I was the only one to turn up to watch a game against Bradford! I turned up and approached CP at the Kop end. I thought it was a bit unusual that nobody else was walking to the ground. I thought it even more unusual to find the gate open at the Kop end. So I walked in to find nobody in the ground!. I must have been the only person in Wigan not to have heard that the game had been called off because of a severe frost. I was convinced the game would still be on because of the underground heating system. I bought an evening post on the way home which confirmed that the game had been called off. Actually the pitch wan't too bad. The reason the game was called off was because the terraces were covered in ice.

I must admit your post has brought a smile to my face.

Warrington led 16-2 in Saturday's Grand Final, but their joy was short-lived as Wigan roared back to win the Super League title and extend the Wire's 58-year wait to be champions:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_10174.png |

| At half time, who else used to race from the Whitbread stand, all the way up the Popular, around The Kop and then along the Dougie back to the Whitbread?
Great way to cure HT boredom,

I was only 14/15 when we left.
Me and my mates sometimes talk about how good it would have been to watch Wigan at Central Parks being at the ages we are now.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

| I remember one of the strangest tries I have ever seen was at Central Park, there was some sort of obstruction or something but the ref did not blow his whistle and Radlinski just ran over the line from 30 meters out. It was weird because all the other players stood still while he ran really slowly to the line, the crowd also went strangely quiet. I have no idea why I remember that.
My best memory though only being 17 almost 18 is the final game, an event I will never forget.
The main thing that sticks out for me is the whole day out at CP, going to robin park, I just go and the come home, CP was more of a big game to me.

20333_1393344959.gif Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_20333.gif |

| Reading through the thread sure is bringing a tear to the eye and a lump to the throat I can tell you. Never been to the tesco and never will every time I drive past it guts me.
Me and me Dad used to park on the car park near the old police station and walk down I used to walk ahead keen as mustard to get a space on the wall as I was a nipper and on the way to the ground me Dad throwing little tomato bud things at me which grew were the grand arcade is now and pretending it wasn't him and me throwing them back at him. then walking through the club shop in one end out the other and having a go of the claxons/clackers (thing what you swing round and makes a scraping noise) and the initial panic of going through the gate and being on me own in stadium while me dad qued up.
If I coudn't get on the wall I used to sit on the barriers in the popular side and try to balance whilst 20 000 blokes ducked underneath me without knocking me off going for a pint/.
Me Dad nearly scrapping with some bloke because he put his son infront of me on the wall so I couldn't see so the bloke did one.
A player called Bright Sodje for Hull kr/Sheffield who I called soggy butty
Watching England v Fiji in the 95 world cup over the douglas stand I was under the girder and Paul Cook kicked for touch and I tried to wriggle from under the girder and it whacked me on the arm and it ragged I was only 10.
Wigan v Canterbury in 97 and was it Canberra aswell???
Being amazed by Andrew Farrar being able to kick the ball higher than the stand and getting him mixed up with Andrew Farrell

| Can I just point people the thread at the top of our board about a memorial service for those who's loved ones ashes were scattered at the old place.
On a seperate note I hope the club do something to mark ten years since we left Central Park for the Hull game. Proper old fashioned retro kit would be my idea.

Maybe they could play in a kit similar to the retro one that they've been selling recently.
My choice would be the 1997 kit though
