| Its not a stupid thread. The OP is pointing out that if certain players had done the three errors which led to tries so early on then this place would have been on melt down even before the game finished yesterday. Most are having a go at the ref but Sam cost us just as much. Yes he is still the best player in SL and more than likely in the top 3 players in the world at this moment in time. But yesterday just as against Wire at home he has made poor decisions that has cost us in the end.
All players make mistakes he makes less than most and will make up for it but to say a thread is stupid as you do shows that some will get away with huge errors. But some will never get away with one.

| I don't really know what you want us to do Baked Bean Boogie, knitting round the guillotine is very much out of fashion although I do agree that other players would have got a lot of stick for what Sam did yesterday but you have to compare like with like for one thing and you are surely not comparing Denis Moran and Sam as being of equal ability. Sam had probably the worst game I have seen him have but the guy is human and he was not on his own and anyone who has never made a mistake does not exist and he most certainly did not lose the match for us single handedly. He'll learn from it and be better for it in the end and as others have said he has done far more good for us than bad so whilst I am disappointed we lost the game let's move on and leave it as tomorrow's chip paper

| Sam made mistakes which cost us tries and he wasn't the only one. So did Charnley. We are not having a go because both have been exceptional this year and one poor game doesn't mean we slag them off.
Sam is the best player in SL by a very long way and Josh the leading try scorer by some distance.
One poor game does not a bad player make!

There were plenty of others besides Sam. The mistakes from Lockers, Charnley, Gelling, Hughes, Finch, McIlorum and others were equally responsible.

| Breaking the game down into 1/4's we only really lost the 1st of those quarters by any margin. Its an over simplification to blame Sam for the loss of the game, but his errors sure as hell did not help. We shaded the next 1/4 despite lots of pressure and the 2nd half was rather close overall points wise. Many have said that the Leeds won it in the pack, well lets look at the players who came back from time away, three are normally influential pack members, and ofc SOL was missing from the pack. The pack built no base yesterday, and if even Bailey, the most fay forward in rugby league, starts to look good, you know you have problems! Charnley did not look 100% either, but then who is at this stage of the season.
Its chip paper now, and we need to be on the "London " thread and looking forward.
Any gloating trolls, please note i did not mention the ref...

| Sam didn't have as bad a game as that buffoon in the middle. Can't believe at some of the posts on here about Sam. you should be looking at the team that was picked. You have a few injuries in very important places and yesterday you looked a very unbalanced team with Sean at standoff. Love Sean to bits and would be in any star team of mine but he isn't a stand off. You will have Matty for the rest of your games and I think you will win the GF this year.

| The lad cost us all 3 of the first tries IMO.
Won't get pelters from me though after getting us out of so many holes over the years.
We move on...

| I was unsure about the 40/20 as the pitch did not have it's full compliment of markings, i.e. every ten metres, why was this?
For what ever reason Tomkins watched the ball go over the touchline he had no 20 metre line to refer to.

That's no excuse I'm afraid, he should have been aware of where the ball was being kicked from - that's just basic, basic stuff.
As others have said though, it was the team who lost the game. Yes he made mistakes that led to tries, but so did plenty of others.

Sam offers and produces some of the best rugby seen, ever.
Gelling produces what ?
George must be tearing his hair out.
It's noticeable that our previously strong left side has been poor since Gelling was put out on the wing when he isn't even a winger.
Come back Pat, soon !

| On the 40-20 isn't the ref supposed to say whether it is inside or outside? I thought Sam was looking at the idiot in the middle for guidance.

If you mean on the pitch itself its because its a multi-sport stadium just like DW we don't put the metre marks on the pitch. So Sam can have no excuse as his home pitch is marked out the same

| We should be getting behind the team not slagging individuals off, yes we didn't play our best, but you have got to give Leeds a lot of credit I thought Brian McD came with a game plan, starve us of field position, take us on up front make as few errors in own half as possible, and kick deep pinning us back and starting sets in our own 20, and lets be honest his players executed that plan very well. Yes we made mistakes and gifted them 4 tries with mistakes in our own 20, but we still pressed them and made a great game of it scoring some good tries from inside our half. Sinfields kicking was the difference, we were not allowed any decent, consistent field position and had to launch most of our attacks inside our own half.
Beaten by the better side on the day imho.

I think you are being really kind to Brian Mc and Leeds here Bear. IF Sam had caught the bomb or didn't let the 40/20 go it would have been a different game. However they did and we were left chasing the game this caused us not to play our natural game and Leeds made good of that. I said on another thread that the way we played Leeds should have put 50 points on us however with a bit more luck in attack (the Hughes knock on with about 10 minutes left a prime example) we could have won this match.
