| Quote: Batesy "I want a Saints Wire final to be honest, I think it'd be a great game, and theres the added 'can Wire finally beat Saints' I think it'd be a great final, and also has the added bonus of watching Wire concentrate on the cup, which could distract them from the league. Also Saints don't have the squad to win the double imo, so that final could be a huge advantage to me.
As for who wins I don't really care, but I think I'd rather anyone but Wire won, just because I can't be ar@ed with the Wire fans.'"
I agree.Saints always have and always will be our greatest rivals but like it or not they are a big club and will always be there or there abouts so its slightly easier to deal with. Wire who come on lets be honest aren't really a big club (aren't they behind Widnes in terms of honours?) and have the most irritating fans I have ever come across.

Mostly because the majority of them haven't reached puberty

Some truths spoken here.
Saints winning it might be the lesser of all evils. They're now so used to winning things that they've got a bit blase. At last year's Grand Final, few of the ones near us really seemed that bothered, and were chatting and drinking all the way through the game. They didn't like losing, obviously, but there was none of the fanatical support you used to see in the early 2000s. Pretty like us in the mid-90s, come to think of it.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

| Leeds - 3 times champs - must be the biggest threat in the play offs, so it would be best if they are sidetracked by the cup final.

How do you know that? Saints might have collapsed in a heap of old age by then and be in a position. It's so far off no one knows.

17064.jpg How can I miss you, if you won't go away????:17064.jpg |

| Quote: Cruncher "There are various possibilities here.
Wire could get beaten by the Cats, and we could all have a good laugh at them, as they had a good laugh at us in 2008. But that would mean the Cats getting to Wembley, and gifting the Cup to either Leeds or Saints. So, loathe though I am to want Wire there a second year on the trot, I think it would be a better final.
As for the other draw, it could obviously go either way. It's one of those 'who do you hate least' scenarios - and that can change from week to week. Hetherington, Lee Smith, Keith Senior et al are the w****rs of the moment, so possibly I'd rather it was Saints. But knowing Saints, they'll probably have annoyed us in some way before the semis. Granted there's no Sean Long any more, so that cuts down the chances, but Potter is a whinger and an excuse-maker, so he's a potential fly-in-the-ointment for them, and of course Eddie and Stevo could scupper their chances of staying in our good gooks if they keep creaming the ceiling every time Saints play.
At the end of the day, I think a Saints v Wire final would be very interesting. It would be Wire's best ever chance to finally dispose of yesterday's heroes on a world stage. But if they take it, that means Wire have won two on the trot! Bloody hell, there really is no way to win.'"
Even as a Wire fan I can raise a rather large smile at that assessmemt.... There really isn't many positives for you with this draw is there?
Trying to be as impartial as possible, I think even the most anti-Wire person would agree that a Wire v Leeds/Saints final would provide the best spectacle for RL in regards to wanting to impress a watching national, and possibly international audience....A decent crowd, coupled with an entertaining, probably close match, which would be much needed after the last few finals, which have been a bit one-sided and lacklustre, might finally liven up a competition which is dying on its ar$e.
Catalans shouldn't be discounted though. As many have already pointed out, there is a long time before the semi's, and injuries and form can change things drastically before then.
As a Wire fan, I'll be particularly interested in how Tony Smith treats the next few weeks in the build up to this....Last year he undoubtedly aimed at the Cup, sacrificing whatever small chance we had of making the play-offs in doing so. I'll be curious to see if he believes we have the squad to go 100% at both competitions, especially as the League & the Play-offs look as wide open as they have ever done.

It's so true. 'Er indoors (Wire born and bred) had already got her and the kids' Wembley tickets booked but still spent a good ten minutes dancing round the room when they failed to draw Saints or Leeds. I'm quite glad I'll be in the 'Stan for the semis and final - last year was bad enough but if they win 2 in a row she'll never shut up.
