I think there's a good chance Maguire knew that it was going on as well, but not the extent of it. I doubt an assistant coach had much to do with contract negotiations.

Could be interesting for you though if Bellamy does get sacked and Maguire wins your first title in over 10 years though. That would be fairly big news in Australia. |

I'd be a bit wary of attaching guilt to named persons in this kind of situation. Especially when all you know about this is what you've read online.
The other bit was valid though - about Maguire making the headlines if Bellamy gets whizzed.

The against the Spirit of the cap rule  Load of rubbish I know, but it's only as daft as us being fined because the players got called up to represent their country!

I reckon directors of NRL teams all over Australia are covering their tracks as we speak. I will be suprised no other teams get busted in the near future after reading the quotes from the press conference.

| Don't hold ya breath waiting for 'other' NRL clubs to get busted over 'salary cap issues'.
The NRL needs an independent commission - News Ltd wanted out - The sticking point was Melbourne - Perfect exit strategy achieved
Funny how it's taken 5 years to un-cover & NOBODY at the Storm board - The NRL - or News Ltd had any idea 
This isn't going to be clear for a while but I know Bellamy has said many times over the years he did not want to be involved in player contracts.
There are still two active teams in Melbourne,(playing for points).The NSW Cup team & The Under 20's team.
Funny isn't it how the fans & players of teams bear the brunt of Corporate greed  |

Sad but not surprsing to hear Gabby Logan berating George Riley on her BBC Radio 5 programme for including the story in his sports reports yesterday.
She seems ok with the story of Rickey Flutey moving back to London Wasps RU and Shaun Merritt failing a drugs test. In fact they're having a studio debate about it as I type.
ps Was Michael Shenton on National BBC news last night? If so why was he on?
