The longer the wait for any announcement, the less likely it is that the game is on at the DW.

Giants will defo play Sunday and they will prefer the early kickoff
Situation with the stadium is different, the Giants are holding 60% of the shares
but we all know how powerull the soccer loby is
Athletic are loosing their mercurial manager so things may change in a year or so
good luck

I could accept the mistake last time, having to play Bradford at Widnes, so i went. But i won't accept it this time and won't go if its anywhere other than in the borough of Wigan. If 10,000 fans turn up elsewhere its just showing that we accept what is happening and things will carry on and it WILL happen AGAIN. If everyone boycotts and its an empty stadium on national tv something will done. Whether its equal rights for use of the stadium, or progressing to get a new ground of our own. The council/government gave funds/grants and permission for Dave Whelan to build a new stadium on the proviso that it was used for both Wigan RL and Wigan Ath. If Wigan RL cannot use the stadium for their home games then Wigan RL should be given the same help to finance a stadium of their own. Whelan would not have been given the same financial help if the stadium had been solely for Latics.

@ Dougy your spot on but just hope the game is at Leigh and not in Widnes,we got 12M for CP what did the tics get for the patch of land in springfield, this makes the rugby/football divide just bigger.

This is a little bit about Ground Sharing but couldnt find anything about the 48 hour rule

I.4 - No Club shall have or enter into a ground-sharing agreement unless the agreement contains a legally enforceable provision to the effect that the playing of the Club's League Matches shall always take precedence over the activities of the other party to the agreement.

It'll be played at the DW and the trolls will toddle off back to their own message board. Shame it probably won't stop FRISK posting his usual anti-Dave stuff though.

Exactly. I wish you could delete threads that you create so I can just trash this - 18 pages of speculation and nonsense. Thought everyone had got it out of their systems when our play off game got shifted in 2008 but any excuse eh?

I've read all the pages on this topic, and previous ones that have discussed this issue before, and never commented on it, so, if I am wrong in any way, please correct me.....I live outside the town, so there maybe issues I'm unaware of.

In my eyes, when the construction of the JJB/DW was proposed, didn't Mr Whelan have a controlling interest in both clubs, thereby validating the local/government grants that would be made available on the basis of dual use? Also, at that time, the football club was making it's way up the Football League ladder, and, so, had not reached the money gravy train of the Premier League.

This issue has only seemed to become really prominent once Mr Whelan relinquished his interest in the RL club, and the football club's rise into the PL....as has been pointed out, the only apparent conflict of interest is when football and RL are scheduled for the same day.

I think it's fairly obvious that no further sports ground will be constructed in Wigan....cost, land availability, running costs, usage all dictate that......the Bradford play-off did it for me as far as my very small relationship with Mr Whelan is concerned, as, since that date I've never purchased any refreshments etc, when previously I did every home game.

I can't see any reason why the game shouldn't be played at the DW on the Saturday at 2.30, but, if it can't, I would rather it be switched to St Helens.

Thoughts?

Quote: "[sizeWhelan

Published on Friday 16 September 2011 10“The ground is in super condition at present, and if they have to play next Friday, Ian (Lenagan, Warriors chairman) has guaranteed me Wigan will pick up the cost of cleaning the ground and making it ready for a Premier League match the following day.

“He’s a man of his word and so, if we have to do it, we’re both determined that Wigan will play at the DW.

“Hopefully we’ll beat Saints and it won’t be an issue, but if we don’t we’ll come to an agreement.”
[/size
If Wigan beat St Helens the clash will be avoided, as Michael Maguire’s men would have a blank weekend and progress straight to a home semi-final on the weekend of September 30-October 1, when Latics are away at Aston Villa.

But if Saints win – and Sky won’t change their schedule – a clash arises.

“Sky just dominate the rugby league clubs and say ‘This is what you have to do’,” added Whelan.

“If Wigan don’t win on Sunday we have to iron it out between ourselves and Premier League and Sky.

“But we don’t want Wigan to play elsewhere.”

Two of the Premier League’s main criteria governing ground-sharing are that the football fixture takes precedent, and about the state of the pitch – hence the reason why Warriors do not usually play at the DW the day before Latics.'"

This was from September last year. I would assume that nothing will have changed since then.

I knew I remembered reading something similar, the facts dont seem to back that up though, if it was at the DW that would be that, there wouldnt be so much conjecture about the venue needing tbc.
